CCP - Lochan Oisinneach Mor

Started walking from the car park just after 6am this morning as the forecast for later in the day was fairly miserable. Plenty of blue sky for the first hour but then the clouds started to appear and by the time I reached lochan OM I was in the clag and with the wind picking up it was pretty cold. ...

Re: How did you stay fit during lockdown?

Hi Simon I've walked the same five mile route from the house more or less everyday since the 1st lockdown. It's fine for a bit of exercise but it is next best thing to flat so not that much help for getting back in to the hills. Since lockdown finished I've done five near twenty mile walks on hill t...

Re: Suilven's two summits on an April afternoon

I think I need to plan another trip to Assynt - that looked brilliant.

Hope all goes well with the hernia.

Re: Now that's what I call Education Recovery Planning! - Vo

Hi Graeme Good to see you back in the hills and with four legged company again. At least Luna got a good introduction to some of your more "interesting" routes as this is something she will need to get used to in the months and years to come  I share your hope that PRI start their 6 m...

CCP - Lochan Oisinneach Mor

Another 5:10am alarm call and walking at Dunkeld for 06:45am. As seems to be the norm at the moment there isn't a cloud in the sky but it is cold and the gloves are back on (and stay on). Unusually someone was out ahead of me today (started at Butterstone) and I said hello as he came down the main t...

CCP - Lochan Oisinneach Mor

4th visit since lockdown restrictions were lifted. A different feel to the day and with rain forecast I was at the Cally Car Park an hour earlier so started at 6:45am rather than the usual 7:45am. Although the clouds meant there was no overnight frost it still felt as cold as my other 3 recent visit...

Re: Beinns Odhar Mhor and Bheag

That looked good fun. I really like the early morning shot with the orange light and the ridge lines converging from both sides of the photo. I'm having the same temperature issues (as you) at the moment as it's around freezing to -2 when I start and around 14 degrees by the time I finish mid aftern...

CCP - Lochan Oisinneach Mor

Groundhog Day. Cold start, clear blue sky all day with a gentle breeze and warm by the time I finished. That's three near 20 mile walks in 8 days as I continue to battle back towards gaining a decent level of fitness after a long period of inactivity. Trying not to make this competitive but I was fo...

Re: FREEDOM!!!

A good training ground you've got there, I am sure the legs will return to normal service in no time at all. I'm quite fascinated by ruined houses too, wondering who lived there and what their lives were like. Well, there are a lot of them in Aberdeenshire. I don't have any petrol left from Septemb...

What a joy it was to get out, we have now kicked the Tumps into touch and headed NW to tackle Beinn Mhanach. Everyone we met had a smile on their face and were really chatty.

I'll miss your Fife adventures FF (a good read these last few months).

CCP - Lochan Oisinneach Mor

Same route as friday and more or less the same conditions.

Today's walk felt slightly harder, possibly my legs weren't fully recovered from doing 20 miles 3 days ago.

The tracks were quieter with the schools being back today.

Re: Five Tyndrum Corbetts

This is a route I hope to do in the next couple of years so it was good to read another report on it. Now that you have done it, do you think it makes any difference which order you do the hills in?? I was out on friday as well but no way could I have done this route after so long away from the hill...

Re: Lochnagar cornices

That looked like a brilliant day out. These clear days before the heat of summer give us some fantastic haze free views.

For some reason I always seem to come down your ascent path - I've never actually climbed it before.

FREEDOM!!!

I wouldn't normally post this walk on the open forum but today just seemed like such a special day with the travel restrictions being lifted. It's been 6 months since the Covid restrictions were temporarily eased and I headed down to Yorkshire to walk The Dales Way and since then more or less every ...

Re: Music while you walk

I take my MP3 everywhere with me whether it's a single day walk or a long distance trail. The vast majority of time I won't listen to anything all day but there can be some long days when I'm tired and music can give me a lift for the last couple of hours and it's good just to have the option if I f...
