Re: A storm in a Cromarty teacup

Hi DP That looked like a good short walk. Didn't really understand your comment about poo bins as I noticed a lot of tree branches in your photos    I took a photo specially for you a few months back on Mull, but maybe you missed it? viewtopic.php?f=9&t=122130 I did miss it! I...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

I'm glad to find others own multiple pairs of Bridgedale coolmax liner socks and have had them for years - not just me then! I find them great and hard wearing. If another poster has had them fall apart then either it's a bad batch or quality has deteriorated - I've had mine for nigh on 20 years. I...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

@ Gordie12 absolutely, they aren't cheap but very good and long lasting. Got no blisters or aches anymore and use them already for several years. I love them and im always happy to get them to Christmas and my birthday :D I think you may be on commission. I'm loyal to Bridgedale for all my walking ...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

One thing to remember is that most boots and shoes are manufactured in European sizes, and then converted to a UK size. This means that it's entirely possible that you actually are a UK size 11, but that the conversion is a bit off because UK and European sizes aren't exactly equivalent. Maybe the ...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

Until recently I've always used the Bridgedale Coolmax liners, which to me have lasted ages. However I now use some slightly thicker "active" socks from Decathlon. These have a little more thickness in key areas. Problem is, I can't find them on their website so hard to recommend them! Si...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

I've been using liner socks for over 40 years for similar reasons to you. Far and away the best I have found have been Helly Hansen. I had three pairs that I rotated for many years. When they finally wore out I tried various makes most of which either didn't work well or wore out far too quickly (a...

I've never tried two pairs of walking socks, always gone for the liner and a walking sock on top. Might try the double walking sock if I can't find what I'm looking for.

Thanks Dave

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

The problem with the foot sliding forward in a boot is (as I see it) too much volume in the boot above the foot and around the ankle which means one can't tighten the boot sufficiently to keep the foot in place. There are two possible solutions, extra socks (always has been my solution as I have sl...

Recommendations for Liner Socks

Up until my early 50's I always thought I was a size 11 shoe/boot. Then one day I went to Cotswold Outdoor in Aberdeen and they measured my feet and told me I was actually size 12 so since then I've been buying the bigger size. My feet are more comfortable now but some boots seem to be bigger than o...

Re: A Walk of Three Thirds

Easter Balloch looks quite remote on the map. I can imagine it being quite atmospheric with the cloud down and you've got a great photo there later on of the snow covered track beneath a clearing sky. The first time I did this route I remember getting home and checking the map. I was surprised how ...

Re: Eididh nan Clach Geala

That looked like a really good day. I was halfway through reading your report before I realised I'd actually climbed this hill myself - it took me till the first waterfall photo before it got a bit familiar  I was planning to click on the hill title to see where it was as I thought I had never ...

Re: A Walk of Three Thirds

I've been enjoying reading about your recent ramblings in this neck of the woods as a wee warm up for bigger routes through the summer months. I've had Hunt Hill on my radar as one to do this spring but never got round to it yet. Quite keen to check that wee bothy out too. Hi Graeme It lo...

A Walk of Three Thirds

For the last two years this has been my February/March go-to route as I get the legs ready for the walking season. This year it's a later 1st visit to the route but my 3rd trip to Glen Esk in a week. Starting at the Invermark Car Park at 7:10am it's a balmy -4 (it was -6 on Friday) and with low sunl...
