Re: Walking partner

Just back from Corbett 83 - Gairbeinn in the Monadhliath. Can meet up just about anywhere. I live in Fife.
Would that be Mike McPherson from the Black Isle by any chance?

Re: The steepest Corbetts ever

Can only agree with your report. I was up these two yesterday in very warm weather and they gave me a real work out. I took the same route up and found myself floundering on the unrelenting slopes of Beinn Na Caorach. On the summit and having had a snack and loads of fluids I devised a plan for Eagl...

Re: Shattered on Shalloch

In slightly different weather conditions to old danesian I got myself up Shalloch on Minnoch yesterday. I think its just one of those hills that doesn't give itself away lightly! Burns very high after recent rain and the bridge just has the iron beams - it looked very boggy up that route anyway so t...

Re: Missing Skye Guide

I can only add to what has allready been said. Before August of 2012 I'd never heard of him but after two trips up the Cuillins I felt I'd known him all my life. Anybody who has climbed with him will know that safety was paramount, but I will always remember him for his sense of humour and ability t...

Re: Gairich and the roaring of Glengarry

Lovely photos and a reminder of why I like walking in the Spring and autumn - no midges, no clegs, changing light,
fewer people.

Do you have a translation of the poem by any chance?

Re: Guide / experienced party - Skye Cuillin hills

Its got to be Skye-Hi. Graham knows evry bit of the Cuillins inside out. If the weathers bad you don't get charged.
His rates are among the lowest on Skye. He'll tailor the climb to suit your ability as well.

Re: Advice request for May walks on Skye

Bruach Na Frithe - if the weather is decent- gives a cracking view of the Cuillins
Sgurr Na Banachdich - again in decent weather - also gives a safe passage to fine views.
Or hire a guide - I used Skye-Hi - and extend yourself a bit

Re: Glen Lyon Munros - please stay away until 20.10

AS a matter of courtesy I'd contacted the estate a fortnight ago to ask if it was ok to go up Meall Nan Aighean on the Sunday as it was my last munro. In reply I received a tirade from the head man aimed at selfish hillwalkers, other organisations and government. I'd obviously got him on a bad day a...

Re: Wild Camping close to Invervar (Glen Lyon)????

Be careful round there - the estate is notoriously anti-hillwalker particularly at this time of year.
On the road from Bridge of Balgie over to Loch Tay there are some good spots with access to water.

Re: Another walker dies

Very sad for his family. However I've noticed an increase in deaths of older people on the hills - Ben Cruachan recently . The papers don't always say if it was due to an accident or a medical condition . Apparently there is also an increase in the number of older people having motorcycle accidents ...
