6'4" and 2 collie dogs .. and a mld duomid. In non midge weather I usually leave the door open .. if its non too bad I just shut the door. I just use a polycro groundsheet .. tough and only a few quid. My key bit of kit with the dogs is a sol escape bivi which is a tvek bag (very light) .. you ...

Re: Gortex glue

Try spinnaker tape which is incredibly sticky but light, thin and flexible, used for mending sails .. brilliant stuff

Re: Ben Lawers path advice

As a suggestion I did the round clockwise from Glen Lyon starting/finishing at Inverar and was very pleasant .. that might save miles of trackless wandering

Re: Advice for training a dog to sleep in a tent!

I've spent many a night with the 'hotwaterbottles' in all conditions. I think they take the lead from the alpha (you) and providing you keep a calm demeanour and tell them what the rules are you'll be fine .. https://www.flickr.com/photos/56159557@N07/27496165710/in/album-72157655255526886/ The choi...

Re: Micro Spikes

As Dave Hewitt mentions I too rarely wear boots these days preferring fell shoes .. for steep wet grassy or indeed on hard snow you cant beat the same with the addition of metal studs which are permanently fitted into the studs .. magic on steep grass wet or dry, magic on slippy rock, magic on hard ...

Re: Wellies on Munros?

Another vote for the nokian bogtrotters with which I have travelled many a fell and hill .. comfy as a slipper and hold your foot as firmly as a comfy boot also. Having a low cut means also they ventilate well (and ard light )so you rarely end up with sweaty feet. Ordinarily I tend to wear studded f...

Re: Tent for Solo Backpacking - 2.2kg too heavy?

I've moved from my hilleberg atko to mountain laurel designs tarp tents, the Trailstar and Duomid which are just as windfirm, particularly the former and all under a 1kg, the latter about 400grm. I've also given up with using an inner tent other than a net one in midge season .. A big sheet of doubl...

Re: Rab Ascent 300.....

If you need a bit warmer pop it into a tvek sol escape bibi.. v little weight but breathable and waterproof so doesn't get wet or damp in the tent overnight .. used one for years with a 450grm bag spring autumn

Re: Never leave a brother behind!

You do some impressive distances over rough ground with an absolutely giant sack! What on earth have you got in it? (Possibly boulders for extra trainingšŸ˜Š). One day you discover the delights of tarp tents, bubble wrap and esbit stoves and then well see you cover distance!!
