Re: East Cairn Hill & Mount Maw Walk - Footbridge Down

That is unfortunate timing with the Newsletter. Just one of these things I guess - can't be helped. I'm a fan of the Baddinsgill hills and there on a regular basis. Happy to send an update when the bridge is operational again.

East Cairn Hill & Mount Maw Walk - Footbridge Down

Hi Paul, Happy New Year to you. I note the East Cairn & Mount Maw route from Baddinsgill is featured in the latest WH newsletter. A good walk it is too. Unfortunately the footbridge over the Lyne Water, mentioned in Step 1 of the description, was destroyed by flooding on Saturday 31/12/22. This ...

Re: Red Flag on Pentlands West Cairn Hill

Home hillwalking turf for me. That red flag is for a new shooting range put in by Cairns Farm Estate. The family owners have broadened their business interests lately, and this is aimed at the corporate entertainment market. Haven't seen the range at close quarters myself however I understand it's i...

Re: Hills Maps Not Working

Appreciate you getting back to me so promptly on this Paul. I'll work my way through the options you've mentioned and see if I can sort it. Cheers.

Hills Maps Not Working

With the latest access announcements, I'm keen to start planning picking off some 'new' hills in late April and early May. Only thing is the various hills maps don't seem to be working. Clicking on the red (and for that matter the blue) balloons isn't bringing up any information. Not even individual...

Found Hat - Pentland Hills

Good quality, distinctive hat found near Allermuir summit today. Looks like it’d been lying under snow for a short time. Will hang on to it for a couple of days to dry. Then pass it on to Regional Park staff. Message me with description if you think it’s yours and I’ll get it back to you.

Re: Pentland Way, anyone done it?

Hi, As with others, done most or all of the Pentland Way in sections. But not yet in a single outing. Hope to sort that later in the year. Couple of suggestions you may or may not have already considered. 1. Book Friends of the Pentlands have produced their own guide to the route: https://live.stati...

Update - East Cairn Hill & Mount Maw circuit nr. West Linton

Hi Paul/Helen, Stage 1 of the above described route refers to a wooden footbridge. It points out that: 'This is currently down and the burn must be forded.' That was certainly true. Please be advised however that a new replacement footbridge has been constructed and is now available for public use. ...

Re: An Cladach to be closed due to Bothy Bible

Don't have a dog in this fight. And I've been following the thread with growing incredulity. I've only used a bothy once - Culra. But I've been an on-off member of the MBA for several years. I consider myself an average, urban-based hillwalker. Suppose bothies appealed to me as an extension of the w...

Re: Liddesdale forests and road closures

Good to see these two Borders hills again. It's a useful report for anybody thinking about tackling them in the near future. Thanks for the name check too. I remember that day, and the wander through the Blackwood Hill wood well. There was something very stilling about it. Shame to see the terrain l...

Re: Posting images - removing size limits

Good move 👍 Should make life a bit easier. At the risk of sounding slow on the uptake (which I am  ), is there now any merit in using Flickr or other platforms to host and resize photos for walk reports first? If the site now automatically resizes photos -albeit a bit slower- I'm struggling to ...

Re: Talla Donalds Day 2&3: Last Donald, Statistics & Reflect

Well done on finishing your round of the Donalds Ian   That's quite an achievement. Haven't always commented on your walk reports but always enjoy reading them. Seems to have been a timely confluence of hills, university and a grind away from something else...let's call it Rotten Bottom ...

Re: Talla Donalds Day 1: A Bagging Bogathon

Ooft  That's a big day in some rough terrain Ian. From memory, I think I did that batch over 2 or 3 days. Quite a haul - well done

Re: Colt Hill utilising 2 wheels

Interesting to see this hill again. Notwithstanding the horribly bumpy access road, I enjoyed it. Sounds like the bike was a good option. I'd intended to do the whole Arches thing when I visited. Had a reasonable day for it too. But I changed my mind after visiting the building beside the parking ar...

Beinn a' Bhuiridh - Incorrect Start Point

Hi Paul/Helen,

Just a minor amendment for the above Corbett route near Loch Awe. The 'Start Grid Ref' is shown as NN 124291. That reference is actually a point on the NE slopes of Monadh Driseig. Did the hill on Sunday and my phone GPS showed the start/finish point as NN 132283. Cheers.
