Re: Ben Lui - River

Instead of following the path, go directly to the river from the car park and you will cross at the shallowest point, you can see where people get out on the other bank. If the water level is higher then yes you might need boots off / change of shoes, but i have crossed this part a few times in diff...

Re: Lochalsh Dirty Thirty, A highy recommended event

Good report. Summed up the event well. I also completed the thirty somewhat behind you though and significantly more dirty after an incident in the woods! It was a good day although the climb up the hill after 18 miles was my downfall. legs turned to lead. Polly - The course is sign posted with mark...

Re: Monadliath munros bridge

This may be a silly question - but i chickened out of crossing the one on the route up Ben Oss from Dalrigh earlier this week due to its condition and being on my own - but who if anyone is responsible for maintaining/ inspecting these structures? Or is it a case of user beware? If the bridge caries...

Re: Ben Oss 2nd Attempt with Photos

I was up there the other day and the lower rickety bridge is indeed in a bit of a state. I chickened out of using it as the supporting rails have buckled so far that they are lying on their side. Being an Engineer and being rather heavier than i would like to be - i decided to use the bridge further...

Re: Ben Vorlich and Stuc a'croin

I did this route in the deepest clag and finding a route up the stuc was not very easy at all. The path is good till the boulder filed and then it seemed to disappear into the various options up the scramble bit. Once the clag had lifted a bit on the decent where i was following the deep gorge descr...

Re: 1st munro meall a choire leith to Ben Lawers

The western two are a good day out for a winters day.

I did them wwhen they were frozen solid and completely white.

Otherwise they could be quite boring i guess?

Re: Skyfall via the A9

I have to agree, it is my toilet stop of choice.

However after an infamous £5 bag of (vegetable) crisps incident, Esso is my shop of choice!

Re: Creepy crawlies ........

The other night I came in from work (in Singapore) and went for a cold drink only to find a gecko sitting in the fridge. I think he was sittting in the door between the upper and lower section After looking at each other for a few seconds, he panicked as the light came on and he jumped behind the fr...

Re: I fell 370 feet yesterday and I'm still here!!

I hope no one uses your GPX file without reading the report!

I understand the vomitting thing can be as a result of too much adrenalin hitting your system.

Happened to me once or twice after other "non hill related" incidents. But that is a whole other tale.

Re: Online shopping - delivery charge chancers

Years ago, I got some computer equipment delivered to Campbeltown. The delivery by courier was free to mainland addresses as far north as Glasgow from memory. You can imagine how p*ssed off the driver was when he completed the 140mile journey to the delivery address South of Glasgow. Its not my faul...

Re: Just tell me everything.

A poncho will only provide limited protection to vertical rain. IN scotland it is normally at 45 degrees or worse! so any runn off will soak your legs. Not fun after a while. A good breathable water proof jacket is essential. Even if it is not raining, it will keep out the wind. A cheap pair of wate...

Re: Meall nan Tarmachan’s concise guide to the law of Mr Sod

The number of times this happens is making me reconsider my entire approach to bagging. I am thinking rather than an early night to get on thep, I should set off such that I aim to get off the hill say 2 hours before darkness. Nothing worse than being back at the car at 3pm having seen nothing all d...

Re: First fail 2012....Man flu!!!! Grrrrrrrrrr

I know how you feel. I was down with the cold last week and thought a wee walk up Meall Ghaordie would help to clear it. instead it nearly killed me. I know my hill fitness has dropped off, but the combination of the cold (and maybe some medication) making me feel lethrgic and the constant drip on t...
