Re: Buying Rab Latok Alpine Gaiters? Watch out for this

I see a "Made in China" label.
Could have something to do with it? Quality control issues now that they are no longer manufactured here perhaps...

Re: Backpacking - Food Options

For taste and lightweight, I highly recommend Fuizion Food
taste is fantastically good...

The self-heating food is ok-ish, very easy to use and works well, but taste isnt all that.

Re: Overnight/Weekend Pack Weight

Yeah sounds like thats bout where im gonna end up. Ive read a fair few of the blogs and things on going lightweight, not sure about just using a tarp though lol. would be all fine and well in good weather but knowing our fickle weather not sure i'd trust it as much. The tarp can be surprisingly rob...

Re: For Sale: Canon Lens

cheers guys.. Alastair; there are a few lenses that would be an upgrade to this one. An L prime lens would be superior eg the 24mm 1.4L or the 24mm 3.5L T/S. The old Olympus Zuiko 21mm 3.5 is also a contender (with an adaptor) and the Zeiss 21mm is probably the best of the lot. I find that...

Re: Overnight/Weekend Pack Weight

Would it be fair to say that on average, a wildcamper (1-2 nights) would carry about 15kg? I'm not experienced at it, but have the kit (not all light but tent/mat is) and I think my total bag weighed in at 14kg. It sounds like Ross is around this mark (certainly be over 10kg). I think thats probabl...

For Sale: Canon Lens

Not sure how much interest if any I may get here but I know that an increasing number of people are taking SLR's into the hills. The lens for sale is my Canon EF 17-40L. I will let my pictures do all the talking; http://www.fluidr.com/photos/davidseoras/interesting with only one exception - (the b/w...

Re: Overnight/Weekend Pack Weight

I've become a little bit obsessive about lightening up over the last year. Used to laugh when I heard about people weighing all their gear and shaving off grams here and there by cutting labels of clothes, cutting toothbrushes in half (I have done this one now :? ) and various other things. Started ...

Re: 4 season mountain tent

I would suggest Vango's Spirit 200+ I've had mine for a few years now. Its a 2 man tent, pretty bombproof - have camped out on scottish mountains in this in all weathers, including one night with incredibly windy weather- has acres of space including a very large porch, simple to pitch and at 2.8kg ...
