Re: Cuillin Ridge - South Part

Hello, hardy to be up there in the wet....was it cold too? I guess that your second peak would be Sgurr Dubh Mor which is slightly away from the the Ridge but no less a part of the traverse. How did you reach Alasdair from Sgurr Dubh an-da Bheinn when you returned from Sgurr Dubh Mor...the direct li...

Re: Ruadh-stac Beag direttissima: don't try it at home!

I went by roughly this route many years back....before that I had the SMC book and before WH. Ghiuthais first and then passing a bird watchers howff thing to start a diagonal traverse to get to onto a reasonable way onto the flat summit area of Ruadh-stac Beag through a wee slot....left a few stones...

Re: An Indian summer in Torridon.

Yes I didn't know anything of the 'pole bridge'...maybe it is very new? And it is up near to Loch Clair. Mel uses the Strava app? to record the journey etc. See the mickey mouse Map.

Re: An Indian summer in Torridon.

A little less summery further up the glen on Sunday the following day. Sgurr Dubh was the choice for that day. Never been to the hill by the way chosen...our own way was up the fine path from the Ling Cottage to reach both Corbetts from the South. Looks as if the approach for Mel was from up the roa...

An Indian summer in Torridon.

Quite different in The Cairngorms yesterday. :) My daughter Mel sent me a couple of images of her day out in Torridon.
The images of her and the Dingo appear to be on Beinn Alligin. With the Loch between Alligin and Baosbhien showing in one image.

Re: 3 boring Beinns from Linn of Dee

Must have missed this report from several years ago and has been raised again. It looks as if the gentleman Posting has a liking for doing long distance over several Hills during his days out ..ok that is his choice as it is his choice to do ticking off hills as he gets out just as it is the choice ...

Re: An Sgarsoch/Carn an Fhidhlier - how far by bike

Depends which way that you approach from. :) My own approach was from the Wildlife Park on my old road bike in April 1980. Left the bike near to Ruigh fionntaig and then via the Slochd Beag, across the infant Feshie and on to the two summits. Return down the Feshie path with a river fording to regai...

Re: Alternative parking sugarbowl carpark (Cairn Toul-Braeri

Alternatively, especially so if you have an off road kike. :) Park up near the Baird/Barrie memorial close to Whitewell in one of several off-road slots for a motor. Into Glen Eanaich where there are several ways onto the high ground.

Re: Loch Quoich parking charge

I am sure that the previous poster is correct. The Kingie folks are the most civil that you could wish to meet. I have met them a few years back.
Also although houses are on the north side of the Loch the stalking grounds are across the Loch and are reached mainly by boat.

Re: Sgòr Gaoith, from Glen Feshie

Came past the all Ruadh parking yesterday afternoon...there were half a dozen vehicles parked in the space...no barrier thing at the entrance. Just one notice regarding parking space further up the road.
Seems to be no Forestry stuff going on at the moment.

Re: Beinn a Ghlo 3 from Glenn Tilt ?

That sounds like a tough day out using the bike....I take it that it was not an battery assisted bike  that would be a really tough day out. I do use a bike when out but just to reach where I want to walk uphill from. The only time when I carried a bike, years ago, was to reach the Corbett Leat...

Re: Sgòr Gaoith, from Glen Feshie

As the sign at the entrance to the Allt Ruadh reads...closed for Forestry operations until the Spring. Access to the hill path is still OK. I came down this way and out a couple of weeks ago.
Just park up elsewhere nearby and there doesn't seem to be any problem.

Re: Which OS maps do I need?

Well there is always something new to learn.....The Hughs....very new to me. There will be some grand wee hills amongst that list I guess....I am also sure that I must have got to some of them without knowing of the book listing. Must have a wee look at the book of details. Yes take it easy and buil...

Re: Beinn a Ghlo 3 from Glenn Tilt ?

I did the reverse of this route many years ago on Winter....no cycle of course:-) However had to back track a bit to get to a bridge for the river crossing.... Too much ice in the river to risk a crossing.
