Re: Carnedau horseshoe from Ogwen valley

Although living in Scotland for most of my days I did have some very enjoyable visits to the big Welsh hills in the sixties and seventies.. For these hills I took the opposite way from yours to approach them. I was interested in the classic climb in Craig yr Ysfa corrie that at that time had a Diff....

Re: The North Face

I looked into the tick box questionnaire and it kind of gave up after a couple of stages so didn't find out to where it was going. Wasn't it that the man who founded the North Face company, who several decades ago, sold up and then purchased a huge chunk of Chile and some of Argentina and created a ...

Re: The Great Stone Chute to Sgúrr Alasdair (in sandals)

Surly a pair of damp boots would have saved the folks in your chosen restaurant the exposure of your bloody toes.

Re: Via ferrata: my journey to the dark side!

Have been just once onto a Via Ferrata in Spain. Felt a bit uneasy about the route since it did look as if without the Ferrata stuff it would probably make a good day out for folks climbing at the more advanced grades. :) Two long abseils were needed to get quickly to the base of the Buttress. 666 s...

Re: Creag Meagaidh

If you mean by 'the circuit' i.e. taking in the other Munros as well as the main summit there would be no need to be in the big coire so no need to be either up or down the area of the 'window'.

Re: Dufourspitze - climbing Switzerland's highest mountain

I went with the Inverness boys to this area in my sixties. We had a grand three days out on the what is now six 4,000 peaks between Zermatt and down to the Monte Rosa Hutte. The reaching of the Zumsteinspitze was the closest that I got to the 'big one'. The Inverness folks reached the Dufourspitze a...

Re: Camp sites in Abernethy forest

I am shambolic with images taken on my phone and not transferred to the PC. Anyway a couple of images from June this year on my regular trip to get the view of the Higher Hills from the Rynettin area. 20230602_124556.jpg 20230602_123857.jpg Two other wee buildings beyond the one that I call Rynettin.

Re: Camp sites in Abernethy forest

Rybettin...not a camp site with some sort of facilities.
I pass bye this very fine viewpoint on my bike a couple of times during a year. It is usually closed and with windows shuttered up.
Usually some cattle in the field after going through the gate when heading to Glenmore.

Re: Sgurr Alasdair and One Stone Chute to rule them All!

Some good clear images of the Coire Lagan features. Had to check back to recall when I was last in there. Half a lifetime ago, 40 odd years ago, according to my diary. In fact the only time that I have had my feet into the moving stones was when descended via the Stone-shoot. All during what could h...

Re: Asking for trouble

Hopefully most off road bikers are aware of the fragility of the high level plateau terrain and stay well clear of going anywhere near this area with a bike. There are enough good days out to be had by using the old established estate gravel tracks and Land Rover tracks and of course on the old mili...

Re: The Crue and the Serra Gelada(Benidorm)

So much to visit In this area. To get to the more interesting stuff best to hire a vehicle. We were based in Calpe a bit separated from the tall buildings. Puig Campagna was fine on one of the classic routes there. Our descent was probably on the normal route to reach the summit. The Serra Bernia ri...

Re: Famous Highland Drove Walk

My daughter did this Walk with a.couple of friends who were studying in Glasgow during the 90's.
One of the bunch of long walks that they did together at the end of each academic year during their stay.

Re: Aviemore to Kincraig and back - long day, no hills

Eventually a few images of the flood aftermath. :) 20231009_150410.jpg I decided to use the old road to get down to Aviemore and then onto the Speyside Way after doing the chores at the Mill Cottage. More flooding at the bridge on approaching the Aviemore roundabout. To get onto the Speyside Way aft...
