Re: Water bottle pouches

Thanks weaselmaster, an interesting concept and not something I was even aware existed.

By adding these by Carbiner to the shoulder strap , don't they flail about (a reason I was looking for pouches) as you walk?

How do you secure them?

Re: Water bottle pouches

I had a funny feeling you were going to say that.

As mentioned, I have a new pack, so I'll skip this but may have a look when I'm looking to replace this one

Re: Water bottle pouches

Thanks Caberfeidh, I'm going the end of May so I'm thinking that it probably won't be cold enough to worry about freezing bottles. (though with the changes in climate, never say never). Personally I don't like metal bottles, for similar reasons, i.e. they give the water a metallic taste though proba...

Re: Water bottle pouches

Thanks Rockhopper, that's really interesting and not something I'd even considered. My old Osprey day pack pockets have seen better days so the bottle would just fall out, but I have a new lightweight Osprey (it's in the attic so no idea what model), so pretty sure those pockets would be perfect and...

Re: Water bottle pouches

I haven't had a chance to look at the OMM one's yet and have had no experience with any as I've always used a bladder. I've decided to do the CWT this year, so trying to save some weight and just drink and refill on the go. TBH, they all look a tad expensive. I've seen a coupe of videos of people us...

Water bottle pouches

I'm looking to ditch my water bladder and use water bottle pouches that would attach to the shoulder straps of my backpack, and wondered if you guys have any recommendations?

Trying to save a bit of weight, especially for long distance trails so your help would be much appreciated.

Re: Bad blood and a shroud of ill-feeling on Turin Hill

Maybe you could just book up his holiday cottage(s) with "Ramblers" (and dogs if permitted) then all head up and down HIS hill

Re: Getting started with snow hikes - courses, routes, kit?

Courses can be quite expensive, so I'd try Mountain Aid first. They offer free courses, which I've attended myself (albeit quite a few years ago now) but found the instructor very professional, knowledgeable and helpful and the course was great. Have a look here: https://www.mountainaid.org.uk/winte...

Re: Outdoorsy film review - is there a thread yet

My favourite outdoor film is probably Wild - starting Reece Witherspoon. Although set on the Pacific Crest Trail there are still plenty of "been there, done that!" moments, especially thinking back to my early days of long distance trekking in the Highlands. And there are plenty of charac...

Re: Outdoorsy film review - is there a thread yet

Try and track down Isolation Shepherd - think it may be available to watch. A 1980s telling of the Iain Thompson story of farming in Strathmore before Loch Monar.

Tried searching for it - but dogs!

Is this it?

Re: Is there a Walkhighlands equivalent for the Lake Distric

You could always try your luck on this site.

If you go to Bagging>Wainwrights and search for the Wainwright(s) you are looking for, there's a fair chance someone will have posted their walk with the GPX file attached.
