Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.
It was much easier when we had the approx 5 mile from your home, far less debate over it. Maybe they should bring it back with say a 15-20 mile limit. Most people should be able access enough green space away from anyone else with that sort of distance. I dont understand why hillwalkers would be de...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.
We know that within the rules/advice etc, we could probably "get away with" driving maybe up to 20 miles to walk well away from people, up on the moors, yet still within our county. Our last walk of over 5 miles was in early March last year, just before lockdown, and we followed every rul...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.
I am truly very sorry that you dislike my opinion or contribution to this thread. Opinion is very welcome, dishonesty is unwelcome. If you were to have the opinion we should have a stricter lockdown, fine. If you were to have the opinion we should have a laxer lockdown, fine. Those are opinions. Th...

From memory the police in Derbyshire have been a bit harsh during the lockdowns. They were out with drones during the 1st lockdown

Re: Vandalism to vehicle - Linn of Dee 28/11/20
Just out of interest, was the Linn of Dee car park full? I've not been there in a few years but had heard it was overflowing after Lockdown. From social media it's been beyond bursting with cars parked on the verges. I passed by a couple of weekd and it was empty, Linn of Quoich carp park appeared ...

Clais Fhearnaig circuit new route deviation
Hi Paul/Helen Just to make you aware on the Clais Fhearnaig circuit At NO101921 there's a new track which goes slightly uphill and rejoins the original route at NO088925. This looks to be a permanent fixture to avoid the line of the original track which is now a bit of a swamp in places (including t...

Re: New covid restrictions
That is slightly different from the previous clarification from mountaineering scot. ramblers etc. which implied that it is fine to travel as far as you like, as long as you start in your own area. It now reads that as long as you start within 5 miles from your own area there is no limit in how far...

Re: New covid restrictions
Just been looking at the council boundarys. I’m technically not allowed to climb my nearest munros but allowed to travel to the west and north west west highlands (at least they’re more interesting)

Re: Travelling out with your local area (level 3)
All the advice is here https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-travel-and-transport/ The section in particular states: local outdoor informal exercise such as walking, cycling, golf, or running (in groups of up to 6 people from no more than 2 households) that starts and fi...

Re: Meall na h-Aisre - wet, boggy route, or dry, easy route?
I did this hill shortly after we came out of lockdown and did your route in reverse as I prefer to descend the big if I can, pleasant enough walk and some decent views once higher up

Re: Got a question about Scottish avalanches?
Is that because the Scottish mountains are too small in scale for avalanches at the top level to happen? Yes, and also there is never really any threat to infrastructure (roads, buildings, etc.). I heard somewhere that one reason the Drummochter pass was developed as the primary route north instead...

Re: New Coronavrus Tiers and Hillwalking/Campervanning
We are essentially back in 5 mile territory for those in Tier 3/4. So, no it wouldn't be in line with the guidance. Where's the 5 mile limit been published? All I've seen so far is that outdoor exercise is on the exempt list for travel reasons or was it another off the cuff remark made like the 1 h...

Re: Scrambling Boots and shoes
I recently did 3 days in the Cuillins wearing Salewa Mountain Trainers, no issues despite them having not much in the way of tread remaining (they’re coming up for 4 years old and heavy use)
