Re: John Muir Way - Might be Better by Bike

Thanks for the suggestion for a cycle path. You had the best weather. Sorry for the blisters. I guess, thats tarmac walking.

Re: Brandy Required on The Snub

Hi Murray, Dont know if you are still active in the forum but I watched a few of your YT-Vids and was wondering, how you manage to tackle the hills even on the shorter days with all that fuddling with the camera and tripods? On my trips I do some quick shots and try a few different angles but runnin...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

As a tourist myself and mostly travelling by car Im not against parking fees or tourist taxes, if it goes to the community and helps to maintain the loos, parking and roads. But it has a limit. 3-5 Pd a day are okay and will hopefully prevent people to block the roads. In many tourist destinations i...

Re: The Mullardoch 12 in a day

Well done! So far it took me 4 individual days to complete the round from different angles. Age is taking its toll but nonetheless I would try it again in one go (over 3 days of course)
Walking with the big pack slows one down but picking the wrong routes doesnt help either

Day 2: Beinn Fionnlaidh and friends

After a wonderful cold night and not much sleep, because my body refused to sleep at night and prefers to fall sideways during daytime, we got up early(isch), prepared breakfast and checked the maps again. Alex and Susan were heading for Aonach Buidhe from the east, while I had still an overdue date...

Carn na Breabag - a good start

$matches[2] This years days in Scotland were spent in May and turned out to be amongst some of the best ever. With my cats and horse sorted and looked after, I flew in from Hamburg to Edinburgh. Got picked up by Susan the next morning. On our way to Ft. Willi to meet long time friend Alex, before w...

Re: Easy to see why it's popular

Ah, this is how the view looks like! Cheers for the report. We choose this hill last year as our "welcome to Scotland"-hill. My companion was new to the scottish hills and I thought, it must be a good cple of hours to stretch the legs after a long drive in from the ferry in Newcastle. We w...

Re: Affric circuit

Thats nearly my planed route for the 7th/8th of May. We discussed it earlier and Ive packed my sailing shoes for river crossings. It gives more grip on slippery rocks.
Hope, the weather is gentle for all of us...

Re: Mullardoch Round 12 Munro’s 2 nights 2 days

well done!! Thats a big round! I´ve tried and failded it last year. First, it was a late start at around 12 to tackle the first 4 Munros. And with the same bad weather managed to camp just 1 mile short of Loch Mullardoch at the wee waterfall. You had great weather on the second day, It was raining o...

Re: Quietiest bothies

Glenbeg would also be my guess as one of the quitest bothies. While not run by the MBA its a bit in a state but there are plenty of good tent spaces around. Sourlies and Strathcailleach however were both times of my visit a beehive. Stayed at Sheneval for a MBA work party and learned, how folks fell...

Re: Is it possible? Beinn Fhionnlaidh

Re: Is it possible? Beinn Fhionnlaidh

Aye, I´m always take into consideration, what options are on hand. If in doubt, Id rather stick to a long detour. I was already thinking of staying high from Sgurr Gaorsaic over SnC. Depending on weather and fitness I would quite like a Highcamp on SG and proceed the next day over SnC and Mullach da...

Re: Is it possible? Beinn Fhionnlaidh

Wow, John, that looks like a great hike! I have no fear to cross a deep river, cse I use sailing shoes for river crossings. Depending on weather or if the river is in spate I ll try it. Im starting around 5th/6th of May. After Loch Mullardoch its a "easy" walk to Meall Buidhe Bothy via Aon...
