Re: Ben More from inverlochlarig

Hi,
The estate has put in a gate access about 75 metres east along the road. It is a much more pleasant way to climb Ben More than the route from Strathfillan.

News for map fans

I have just noticed that the OS maps app now gives me access to large scale maps of the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Just zoom out till you can see the whole globe and zoom in on the country. Handy if you're planning to walk the PCT or Te Araroa trail, or if like me you just like staring at maps!

Ferry to Arran

I'm hoping to get to Arran for a few days at the end of August, planning on driving to Ardrossan and leaving the car there. Can anyone tell me what the parking is like at the ferry terminal, and also is it worth booking a ferry ticket as a pedestrian passenger?

Re: Elie Chain Walk Covid Restrictions?

Found a photo, it's great fun by the way! Check the tide times though.

Re: Elie Chain Walk Covid Restrictions?

I walked (clambered?) it at the end of May and it was fine - no evidence of vandalism I could see. And no signs advising Covid restrictions.

Snow in Glen Coe?

Hi, I was thinking of going up Bidean Nam Bian and Stob Coire Sgreamach this weekend, but I believe that the 'path' up to the ridge from the head of the Lost Valley can hold onto snow well into the summer. Can anybody tell me if its clear? (Should be after this week's heatwave!)

Re: Parking for Schiehallion / Braes of Foss Car Park

The council have made the Schiehallion road a clearway, so no roadside parking within a couple of miles of Braes of Foss. Get there early if you want a space in the car park!

Re: Pennine way

Hi, Just got back from walking and backpacking Edale to Horton. I carried the Trailblazer guide and the Harvey map - probably didn't need the Harvey; you would have to try quite hard to lose the path on the moors as it is pretty well trodden, and the bogs are mostly 'follow the yellow slab road'. Yo...

Re: Tell me about Rowardennan to Inverarnan - how tricky is

Hi, having done both of these paths in the last couple of years, let me reassure you that there is nothing on the Loch Lomond- side path that compares to the rock step on the coast path (and I'm nearly 60 and no mountain goat!) :)

Re: What would you like help with?

I am trying to read 'Stage 8: Edinburgh to Prestonpans' of the John Muir Way, but the links to route maps and gps files do not work.

Re: WHW advice/recommendations anyone?

presumably you are aware tht wild camping isn't allowed along the east side of Loch Lomond It's OK to wild camp on Lomond side once you are past Rowardennan. There is a beautiful spot just North of Inversnaid right on the lochside among the trees, and in easy staggering distance of the pub. Another...
