Re: It is accomplished!

Well done TEA, particularly for going back and making sure on the ones you may have missed on your first trips. That's dedication to a cause. Your reports have added some suspense and excitement to a couch bound winter for me. Will he make it? I should have had faith that the hero always triumphs in...

Re: Grey around Grasmere

Having enjoyed your reports to date TEA, I have to applaud your ability to keep up the momentum, even when feeling quite so 'tetchy'. Your challenge has turned into a real test of character. A mental challenge as much as a physical one. It almost has the feel of some of the epic expeditions us Briti...

Re: The map should say 'Here be Dragons'

Shame you didn't get a clear day for Bowfell. I do think opting out of the climbers traverse in these conditions was wise, you would have had to stick to the scree next to the great slab as well because if wet it would become the slide to oblivion  As for my discovery  the rain will ha...

Re: The map should say 'Here be Dragons'

Good report and a great place to be for the views . It's a great shame that you didn't get the weather on this trip but maybe next time Thanks Trailmasher. To be honest it was quite nice to have a bit of time in the clag. Its been a long time since I had to navigate in mist, so always good to get a...

Re: Langdale Pikes etc from Grasmere

Thanks Dav, This site is great for giving ideas for walks that might not have occurred to me. I would never have thought to attack the Langdale's from Grasmere, but having seen this and the report by Pamfox you refer to it now seems an obvious and really good way to mop some up I haven't already don...

Re: The map should say 'Here be Dragons'

Thanks Chris, I think one of the joys of the Lakes that I guess you cant match in Canada is that you can arrange most walks to end conveniently by walking into a pub for things like fish and chips and a very nice pint. Having seen your great pictures of a moose a couple of weeks ago the end of one o...

The map should say 'Here be Dragons'

Not the most original route, or the most sparkling photos. So feel free to look away now.... our_route.gpx Still here? Well here at least are 10 things I learned from a classic route around Bowfell, Esk Pike and Rossett Pike, on a cloudy summit day. 1. Bowfell is a monster. Taking it on up the band ...

Re: One for kids of all ages.

Thanks guys,

The kids were troopers all day. One of those days you will remember where they don't get tired and grumpy, and everyone has fun.

Fleetwith Edge is a really good way up a mountain. Going up you still get the views - it's steep enough to need frequent stops.

One for kids of all ages.

our_route.gpx Now he has turned 8, I had to give in to requests from my son Dougal to go on a proper mountain adventure. Up to now he has only had a trip up the local hill of my childhood, Benachie, and lots of scrambling on rock at the beach in Banff where I grew up. So together with the more expe...
