Re: Camping, a Munro and a pub.

BobMcBob wrote:The Kingshouse is closed for renovations until early 2018, but there is a temporary bar open (which I haven't been in). Not sure about the camping situation during the renovations.

You can camp at the Glencoe Mountain Resort across from the Kingshouse.

Not sure if they are officially open, but the guy bends over backward to please :D I think they are normally open all year but are closed this year until the end of February. Re: Off road camping – can we cut out the confusion?

I think the answer is the recession that hit - folk just don't have the money for stuff any more.. ... So the answer is probably economics. Cheaper to get away somewhere with a 24 pack, than meet your mates to go to football and have a few jars in the pub. I don't think economics is the ans...

Re: Stagecoach and Hiking Gear

There is the citylink bus as described above but if going to Glencoe village there is also the normal local bus Fort William to Kinlochleven, hourly during the day. Not a coach so no cargo hold, I've been on it a few times and it was never full - might be best to contact Stagecoach in advance though...

Re: Poles vs Crooks...GO!

But I also quite like using a nice length of hazel as a walking stick ... :( Aye - I mask my weak legs and occasionally less than perfect balance with a stick. I swaddle my untoughened feet in boots. I compensate for my weak, vulnerable, hairless body by swathing it in insulation and waterproofs. a...

Re: Fort William accomadation

I stayed at Torlinnhe Guest House which is on Helen's link above - cannot recommend it highly enough - they have a single room which is quite a good size - not a broom cupboard like most. I note on their website though they normally only accept 2 night stays from May onwards unless they have a one n...

Re: Walker Rescued from Cairngorm Car Park

In Glen Doll at the visitor centre this is in operation during the winter. The Route Card System operates from 9am - 4.30pm during the winter months (October - March) and 9am - 6pm during the summer (April - September). Lone walkers venturing out on to the hills are strongly recommended to use the ...

Re: Why does this website only list Mountains and not Tops.

I'm waiting now for the comments along the lines of "political correctness gone mad" and "Have you not got a sense of humour?" He was being offensive to one specific Fijian woman Not quite on the same scale of serendipitously-precise footwear-related ethereal giftage, bu...

Re: Aonach Eagach- safe next week?

Another quick question on this walk: he wants to bring his dog but from everything that I've read this seems a very bad idea. Am I correct in assuming this? If I were the OP I doubt I'd come back here for advice The posts have become successively more scathing and personal In the absence of evidenc...
