Re: A round of 8 Eastern Fells around Kentmere Pike

....Lockdown definitely took its toll on my hill-fitness... Happened to most of us, I suspect, and cycling doesn't quite do the necessary. Ps ...The Sportsman on the A66 had a notice on the door saying "closed due to end of the world". Oddly enough, the same has happened to most e...

Re: Creag Pitridh Trio - a Brilliant Bike Hike.

Another one to get southerners green with envy. What a fabulous day!

It is really interesting to see these hills from this approach route, having walked them myself approaching from the Ben Alder side. I guess all great hills bear multiple repetitions from every possible angle.

Re: A cracking traverse of Beinn Alligin

I thought: surely there weren't 2 days with this superb weather ??!!?? Then it clocked when I saw the last pic: it was the same walk as the long-haired fellah reported on.... :D It's hard to beat days like this. On such occasions I often think of Joe Simpson's words in "Touching the Void...

Re: Beinn Alligin - end of the week stunner

Was clearly a fantabulous day. It's becoming ever clearer to me that one needs to walk the Torridons both in winter and summer conditions (and probably spring and autumn also) to get the maximum out of them. Some absolutely wonderful pics there, notwithstanding the hair disadvantage you're working w...

Re: A round of 8 Eastern Fells around Kentmere Pike

Superb. A proper Wainwright baggers' route with various extensions to include extra fells. But why not descend straight down to Hawswater after climbing Selside and saving the effort of reclimbing Branstree? Thanks PP. The reason I never planned to descend directly from Selside Pike, is that I will...

Re: Wild camp on Mount Keen

Looks like it was a great overnighter, especially with that stunning sunset.

But that pack looks suspiciously small - I remember many reports featuring a Mountain Love carrying a pack big enough to have contained a fitted kitchen!!! Is someone else doing the heavy lifting these days...??? :D

Re: The Mullardoch 12 in a day

Well, that was a most enjoyable read/pic-ogle - brought back many very fond memories. You may have forgotten your "good" camera, but you certainly managed to get some really excellent pics. I only had a horrible little Nokia mobile phone, so it was great to see that dawn on Carn nan Gobhar...

Re: Waterproof hiking boots or ....

Altberg boots. One piece of leather. I’ve fell in a few streams while crossing them and despite my foot being fully submerged I never once got wet feet. Yes, I'd second that. I've found my Altbergs astonishingly waterproof, especially in combination with gaiters to prevent water getting in the top....

A round of 8 Eastern Fells around Kentmere Pike

Friday looked to be both auspicious from a weather perspective, and free of other family commitments - of which there'd been a few latterly. For the fourth post-lockdown hill outing I thought it ought to be OK in the Lake District by now as regards overcrowding risk, particularly if I got an early s...
