Re: The Devil's Point via Càrn a'Mhaim

Definitely doable. I did the route outlined by Rockhopper... https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=66503 ...but I can confirm that the slog up the slope to Carn a'Mhaim is quite brutal. There was no path that I could see. It may be better taking the longer but less ferocious ...

2022 07 Mam Meadail

The forecast for this, the last day in Knoydart, was for clear tops, so I planned to visit Meall Bhuide and Luinne Bheinn, and set the alarm for a moderately early start, since I had to catch the ferry back to Mallaig at 18.30. Sadly, when I peered out of the tent, the tops were yest again shrouded ...

Re: Applecross adventures

This brought back some good memories! Not unalloyed pleasure in the case of a' Chioch - as I did it in soggy conditions, which resulted in my pulling out of the final climb up to Beinn Bhan. But a' Cioch was brilliant, even if not up the classic rock climbing route. You certainly drew the long straw...

Re: The Calf and Calders from Bowderdale

Nice report and pics. I walked this area in early (frosty!) 2017: I never fail to be surprised how different a hill in summer can be from the same hill in winter!

Re: Excellent weather for a Ben Alder round of 9 + 5

Did this walk over 2 days with a camp overnight. I followed Alteknacher‘s GPX route with the exception of going for the various tops if they weren’t on the direct route. Mileage and altitude gain are pretty accurate as I recorded very similar. Thanks for the route details Alteknacher, couldn’t have...

Re: A stunning walk in the Cares Gorge - Picos de Europa

Stunning indeed! The precipitous cliffs remind me of the gorge above Nerja in Southern Spain, which I walked down a couple of times a decade or so ago.

Re: Knoydart and the Absent Minded Geriatric Walkhighlanders

A whole lot of great pics there, Yorick. You clearly made a couple of good decisions on both the Saturday and the Sunday. Though how you must have imperilled your soul with oaths to the dark one so as to get those short breaks in the cloud at just the right time, I hardly dare speculate! But hey! Wh...

Sgurr Coire Choinnichean

At last the WH meet on Knoydart, postponed for two years because of covid, is happening. Sadly, Jaxter - who arranged it - is unable to attend due to having serious long covid. Now I'm on the wee ferry on the short trip to Inverie, with a few other Walk Highlanders. https://i.ibb.co/bXGwR40/20220708...

Re: Starav Seven

A fine walk, and report! I enjoyed the memories it brought back of a similar walk I did in the area a few years ago - it's a great bunch of hills. Less enjoyable was the recollection of completely missing Beinn nan Aighenan - I just didn't notice it! I envy you the sundew - I haven't seen any for de...

Re: Shattering the silence

I somehow managed to miss this WHR first time around - for which I, of course, blame covid... But very glad that I eventually caught up with it. The usual superb collection of pics, of course. i particularly liked "Green rocky island on Ulscarf" (a hill I've yet to visit, and your descript...

Re: Borrowdale Catch-up

Excellent report from a fine route through some of the best country England has to offer. Thanks John. ... As for Eagle Crag there is an eminently practicable route down from the summit which I have ascended twice, I admit it may be a bit more tricky to find the way down but for what it's worth my ...

Re: A few days in Shetland

What a fantastic wild-life fest - although the avian flu toll is very depressing. It's clear to me now that I didn't focus adequately on the bird life when we lived there in the late 70s. Phalaropes are really something special, and I wasn't then even aware that they were present. Loved the report. ...
