Perfect Pentland Pearls

A little alliteration always helps! Sometimes you overlook as unworthy the familiar things you see most days. We found this to be the case in our first foray into the nearby Pentland hills. Whether it was the scenery or the long overdue clear sunny days or both, we thoroughly enjoyed our outing toda...

Giants are smaller once slain

In my youth and ignorance I would frequently pass this towering giant of a hill en route to our annual summer holiday destination which would be hundreds of miles down the M6. Then it always seemed much bigger, broodier and imposing than it actually was. Even back then I harboured an urge to climb a...

Upping the pace with Andy Stewart

Having waited about for a month for an opportunity and semi dry weather to coincide we headed off to nearby Carron Valley to a well walked wee hill while kids were at school. Meikle Bin was the destination and the car park at end of the Carron Reservoir was the starting point. As usual the part of t...

Living up to its name with Seymour Butts

Eventually getting around to walk report 2 months late. A Groupon deal for the Spread Eagle hotel in Jedburgh afforded us the opportunity to pay a visit to some far flung hill or two. Keeping with the somewhat risqué theme of the weekend we decided to travel down to Cocklawfoot farm which was just p...

Re: Settling old scores

The snow was about a foot deep on top but the path was still well defined above the snow lined due to the traffic. Definately need some extra grip for downhill.

Settling old scores

While enjoying a wee weekend away at the Crianlarich Hotel I took the opportunity to complete one of the Breadalbanes missing from my bag. Was a bit apprehensive considering the dusting of snow and the lack of crampons. Fortunately we had some Yak Tracks which performed well on the day. As reported ...

Re: Coomb ba ya my Lord

Thanks Johnny , just returned to walking after a lengthy break and getting out anywhere when time and circumstances allow. Adding the Donald's made it a decent sized walk for the travelling. Times have changed for the better with sites like this one where all the info for the hills and surrounding a...

Coomb ba ya my Lord

After checking out the weather the borders looked the best bet for a wee walk. Inspired by a WH report we opted for a wee circular of two Donald's and a Corbett around the Grey Mare's Tail. Should have payed more attention to the weather report and included sun cream, sunglasses and a hat for shade ...

Re: Me and my big mouth

Thanks for the congratulations all, reading the exploits of a few of you on WH has reinfected me with the walking bug after 14 years away from it. Was on nightshift looking at possible walks for my days off, a sure sign of the contagion! The WH meets look like a good weekend, unfortunately I'm worki...

Me and my big mouth

While on a caravan holiday in July 2012 we stayed at the Glen Nevis campsite for three days where our pitch afforded unspoiled views of the Ben and the well worn zigzagging track on the higher reaches. It was during these carefree three days that probably some alcohol fuelled bravado caused a foolis...

Wetter than an otters pocket

Taking advantage of being on a 2 day Groupon break in the area, we had selected the four peaks in the Awful Hand as a bit practice before tackling Ben Nevis at the end of the month. The weather had been marvellous in the days leading up to the outing but as luck would have it 24 hours of rain was fo...

I fought The Law and Ben Cleuch

Living in Bo'ness on the Forth estuary, I have looked on to the Ochils from my house for 24 years and have been threatening to climb them for longer. Today was the day that fantasy would be fulfilled. I used the circular route from WH website and set off with Mrs Bbbadger about 11 am. The weather wa...

West Lomond

Continuing the get fit campaign during school hours made this hill a viable option, just an hour there and back from Bo'ness. If we had more time we could have done Bishops Hill too as it looked quite near from the summit. Beautiful part of the country with lots of wild life on the hill and moor. Qu...

Trial by Cleggs and Blazing Sun

Freshly back from 2weeks of non stop eating and drinking on holiday, the first outing was bound to be a sair yin! A "wee ronnie" Beinn Each was selected to up the challenge from our recent trips to the Lomond Hills. The cleggs made their intentions clear as soon as the car door opened. Kit...
