Terra Nova

I bought my Terra nova Voyager 16 years ago. It has been a fantastic tent. Among the highlights of its varied career have been a round the world trip, the GR20, the Cape Wrath Trail and so many trips in the Scottish hills. It has stood up to all sorts of weather and never once let me down. Until the...

I have "The Charm of the Hills" which is all about the Cairngorms. First published in 1912.

Re: Removing Fabric Softener

I agree with the previous poster. Fabric softeners and conditioners are totally necessary and pollute the environment with chemicals and plastic. Just don't use them.

Re: Campervans

I witnessed a prime example of total incompetence at the wheel of a motorhome at the weekend. The guy was setting off from a campsite and clearly hadn't a clue where he was going. He stopped at the exit and just sat there while a small queue built up behind him. Eventually, someone sounded their hor...

Re: Munros for 6 yr olds

Navigation is unlikely to be a problem,

In poor visibility, which can occur at any time of the year, navigation can pose serious problems. See for example:

Re: Male and on your phone biggest dangers in Scotland

I have done most of my hillwalking on my own. And I thought I was good at navigation until I learned the skills from a professional whilst doing mountain leader training. I really don't think that offering navigation courses makes you a member of the "cotton wool brigade". If you don't thi...

Re: Compleation party. An Teallach 25th/26th June 2022

Have you thought of contacting Number 10? They seem to have a lot of people who are always up for a party.

Re: Huge queues on Snowdon

I imagine the queue is to take a selfie at the summit. I would just walk past the queue to reach the summit and then carry on with my walk.

Re: Whangie & Devils Pulpit

I would give the place a wide berth. I live locally and the whole area is now a complete mess. It is very dangerous to walk along the roads to and from the Devil's Pulpit. The place is horrendously over crowded and full of litter. There are plenty of more attractive, safer places to go.

Re: VISIT SCOTLAND aren't helping

Making the most of all the economic benefits Scotland’s tourism industry has to offer is at the heart of everything we do – and we work closely with individual businesses, public agencies, local authorities and other tourism stakeholders to help achieve this. (Visit Scotland website) VisitScotland's...

Re: VISIT SCOTLAND aren't helping

Also what they have said about wild camping in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs NP is misleading. Here is a link to the correct information.

Re: Dogs and Hills

Whatever breed you decide upon I would recommend training your dog to recall to a whistle. I have had working Springers and Labs for the last twenty years so whistle training is essential while in the field. My Labs like to wander while out on the hills but respond immediately when called. It's a g...

Re: To corrour bothy

"I would much rather walk in and out via the Black Bridge/Derry Lodge/Luibeag route. You have a bit of ancient pine forest that way too."

I'll second that. The White Bridge route has become very popular with mountain bikers which has turned it into a muddy mess.
