Western Knoydart

After our epic 'Knoydart Odyssey' last year (walk report here: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=24694 we returned to the peninsula the easier way this year - by boat from Mallaig to Inverie. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7415/9603041145_212426864b_c.jpg Approaching Inveri...

Hill at the Edge of the Sea

http://youtu.be/QN3j7yJzLVU We parked at the road end, by the Machair Gate, having been asked not to park at the former MacGillivray Centre (as it is now a very busy, and extremely good, cafe - Temple Cafe). The first part of the walk was through delightful machair (species-rich coastal grassland es...

Re: Bynack More and Strath Nethy

Wow GariochTom, that is some distance! Your route makes for a nice variation rather than turning back the same way. I may do the same when my time comes. That view over Loch Avon is grand. 8) I like your pictures of the Cairngorms miniature world! It's funny, the walk didn't seem as long as it was,...

Bynack More and Strath Nethy

bynack-more--strath-nethy.gpx We set off up the road, past the Reindeer Centre, up to Glenmore Lodge where the road becomes a track. It was a pleasant walk through the woodland with its birches and pines that climb up the hillsides. We passed An Lochan Uaine, the little green loch, then soon emerge...

Beinn Fhada

I think I'll make this a walk report of pictures and few words... An enjoyable walk especially due to the diversity of plants we saw in the glen, before and after being in the clouds higher up... https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7439/9203804766_c5a2192a47_c.jpg Loch Duich in the distance by GariochT ,...

The Creag Meagaidh Five under the Sun and Moon

Day One beinn-teallach--beinn-a-chaora.gpx http://youtu.be/PkPK_RkDqa8 The further west we drove, the hotter it was, and by the time we were alongside Loch Laggan the my car's thermometer said it was 30.5 degrees. We left a car at the Aberarder car park then I drove us to a layby at Roughburn, the ...

Re: Cleaning synthetic sleeping bag - advice please

.....Nikwax 'Tech Wash' for machine washing the sleeping bag...... Nikwax 'Tech Wash' is good for the job, I've also used Ecover Delicate on synthetic bags. DO NOT MACHINE WASH! Hand wash in the bath or other large tub and be careful how you handle the wet bag as the stitching can be easily damaged...

Cleaning synthetic sleeping bag - advice please

My 4-season synthetic sleeping bag is in desperate need of a wash. The Mountain Hardwear web site advises that for synthetic bags, you should use a mild powder soap or special synthetic cleaning product. I'd be grateful for any advice on whether it would be fine to use the Nikwax 'Tech Wash' for mac...

Re: A Summer Solstice Wild Camp, high in the Glencoe Mountai

Stunning images. Did you do some time-lapse photography for some of the sunset/sunrise videos?

I like the symmetry of the film - the same beginning and ending!

Catching the wildlife by surprise on Lochnagar

Earlier in the week the weather forecast for the weekend was looking good - blue sky all weekend in Ballater! Not only that, but I had just bought a new camera and was eager to test it out. A weekend bivi on Lochnagar was therefore on the cards. I left for Ballater on the Saturday afternoon. Driving...

Re: Beautiful Bivvy by Loch Avon and Ptarmigan Aplenty

bootsandpaddles wrote:Nice photos of birds. The British Trust for Ornithology is doing a survey of birds in the mountains and would like people to report sightings (with grid refs). You can get the details from their website.

Thanks - I'll have a look at their web site and send the sightings in.
