Re: Feedback and advice on my route planning.

Craigdon mountain sports are across the road from the train station. Blacks on the same street if they don’t have any.
The bigger Outdoor shops are a little bit out the centre (tiso, Cotswold’s & go outdoors)

Re: Feedback and advice on my route planning.

I’ve done tomatin to Inverness so know those tracks in general will be fine. If you wanted to shorten things you can get the bus there instead.
The track in the forest immediately south of Inverness is a bit boggy by the way but not insurmountable.

Re: Alltbeithe YHA snow conditions

Caught a glimpse of the Strathconnon corbetts today which aren't that far away. Fresh snow down to around 700m. Given there was nothing the other day I'd imagine it's all superficial and likely to melt in the forecast temperature rise. Could also see Wyvis which was very snowy above 700m but it seem...

Re: Ryvoan Bothy and Lochan Uaine in the April Sunshine

'Demolishing them because of false sense of security' - what crap! They're a great asset and suit the landscape. I assume you know which ones and why? Yes, the ones 'in a treacherous landscape, and because they offer a false sense of security'. If you have an opinion or know more then you could wri...

Re: Alltbeithe YHA snow conditions

Likely all change next week but if your lucky I occasionally get a glimpse of the Strathfarrer hills fro near the house. There'll be fresh snow high up this week but at this time of the year will melt really fast.

Re: From Fort William to Kinlochleven via Glen Nevis

No need to cross the Mamores! Follow Glen Nevis up over the watershed to Meanach and then an easy track down to Kinlochleven. The upper parts of Glen Nevis and across the watershed don't have much of a path and can be boggy, but there's nothing technically difficult. Could be done in a day, but dep...

Re: Route to Creag Meagaidh

Can’t quite work out what you are trying to do? I assume some sort of public transport aided walk if you are starting in Newtonmore?

Re: Proof of the Earth's curvature on Ben Klibreck!(?)

It’s barely visible from an airliner at cruising altitude never mind at 3000ft

Re: It should be an easy hill. Post-holing with Kids

I wrote this report after three months and now I am smiling about it. Fortunately, the bad is mostly forgotten and only the better memories remain. 8)

Type 2 fun then.

Re: Getting to Kinloch Hourn from Fort William

Glenshiro wrote:You must have used the no. 27 - takes 54 mins via Culloden moor.
The no.11, on the other hand, takes 34 minutes.

There’s a train now of course but is a 10 minute walk from the terminal or shuttle bus.

Re: Your favourite golden eagle encounters

Memorable eagles, there’s been lots. One soared past us riding a thermal on the Devils Point. Two adults and two juveniles circling above us on the cioch nose Scaring the living daylights out of ourselves and the eagle when walking northwards on Stob an t-Sluichd. It was only a few meters away tucke...

Re: Loch Lomond and Cowal Way with kids

Not done the Cowal Way as such but various hills utilise bits of it and I've not been that taken with it. Pretty boggy in places.

Re: Geal Charn from Spey Dam

I would have been wary of the burn crossing. Don't tell me, it was just a an easy to step over narrow burn. Good views of the crags there too and a nice waterfall. Next time... There is a bridge (not marked on the maps) across the Markie Burn a bit further on at NN588983 (or at least I assume it is...
