I plan to be back in Harris in 2026 and this report made me earmark this hill.

Re: pagan ritual sites?

Every stone circle, or single standing stone probably served some ritual purpose. There are tons (literally) of them around the islands.

Re: Scottish Big Five

As an island lover, to me, it would be puffin, gannet, razorbill, cormorant and, of course, the bad boy, the bonxie. Seals and dolphins/minke whales (spelling?) are cool too, and why not throw in some deer (if on Jura) and ponies (Eriskay or Shetland), and, of course, a highland coo. But let‘s be re...

Re: When hillwalking becomes an addiction

I think I was like that in the early days of my hillwalking. Until March 2013 I'd never been to Glencoe, let alone Skye, Torridon, Arrochar, Assynt etc. I couldn't wait for the next free weekend of decent weather to climb some new munros in an area I'd never been to before. I think it helped that I...

Re: When hillwalking becomes an addiction

I feel you because I recently faced the same issue, albeit with skateboarding. It started out during the lockdowns as a fun thing to do but became an obsession, daily routine and I thought of little else. Recently that changed after three years and now my focus is turning towards running so I need t...

Sober in Scotland?

Hi folks, I have been to Scotland many times prior to the pandemic. I was also a huge whisky buff and a lot of my memories include visiting distilleries, whisky shops and visiting bars sampling rare drams. In 2019 I got on the wagon and now almost can‘t look at my photos because they always come wit...

Re: A splendid sea journey with a bonus lesser-spotted Maril

A lover of the Outer Hebrides myself, I have ogled Sandray from that very Vatersay beach longingly. I have managed to visit St Kilda, the Shiants and even North Rona but the Bishop Isles have eluded me (so far). Your report is a good reminder that I have unfinished business up there. Thanks!

Re: Question about the Island of Hoy in the Orkneys

The best way to see the Old Man is from the Thurso boat anyway. Oh and don‘t say Orkneys.

Re: Walks in and around Helmsdale

Helmsdale is such a dope name, I always think of it as some Lord of the Rings type fortress. :D
