Re: Attadale Parking

I've stayed there a few times (once for 5 days). Parked the car at the gate - the game keeper said to park it on the grass near the gate as the car park is pretty busy and cars come and go through the day. Came back and car was fine - you may wish to call the Estate Office, they are really helpful i...

Re: Chaffing

Hi, Used to get this.....oh man!!! Skin tight cycling type shorts help. At it's worst, vaseline was the only stuff that gave me relief... anti chaffing cream was a poor substitute. Generally sweating is the main cause but the barrier good old Vaseline gives sorts it out for you - and only 50p for a ...

Re: culra

Asbestos is only dangerous when moved, removed, etc. Your exposure will very likely be have been 0. It's naturally occurring mineral that is only dangerous in higher concentrations of exposure.

Re: Advice on good Munro for wild Camping

Hi there, I have camped on a good few munro bagging trips. Camping on the top can be difficult due to terrain and most of the time I find a place at the bottom to camp and walk up. - Glas Tulichean has a wee loch with about 4 munros around it to walk up. Ben Cruachan has a flat spot at the bottom en...

Re: Two questions concerning the West Highland Way

I've walked it three times and wild camped it two of them. Theres a good spot about 5- 10 minutes after the Inveroran hotel for camping at the first bend to the right, can't miss it and a few other possibilities further on. Once on Rannoch Moore though, there's only a couple of decent places to camp...

Re: damage to estate stalking info notice in Achnashellach

It may be way off the mark. But I would suggest this post is the beginning of attempts by landowners to try and justify signs going up and fences being erected to minimise people accessing their land. What walker would post a post of this nature, I ask you? In some respects walkers definitely need t...

Re: ring of steal

I did three weeks ago clockwise. As advised by the previous responder the Devil's ridge was straightforward. There is a ridge before it that I found more exposed but managed it no problem - and I don't like heights. Would not be much fun on a windy day though! It is a tiring day for the fit.... Have...

Re: Wild campin near Beinn Narnain

Hey! I camped just off the road about a mile up the road from the start point on this site. Its on the right hand side of the road and you drive down to a parking area and started from there. If you are meaning on the mountain itself then on the way up near the Narnain boulders there would be plenty...

Re: West Highland Way in 5 days.

Hey! After your 15 mile walk remember which parts of your feet "hotspots" occurred. Then when you start the WHW put zinc oxide tape over these parts and this will help reduce the likleyhood of blisters. If you get a blister use compeed, this stuff is invaluable. I had blisters both times I...

Re: West Highland Way in 5 days.

Hey! No, I did it the last week of March and as it turned out the first week of the season. I was able to get a place to stay no bother. If you doing it in the summer you would definately need to book I think. In the summer it's like a motorway with loads of people walking it. I did it in march as I...

Re: West Highland Way in 5 days.

Hi, I did it twice last year 4 days without full load and second time 5 days doing what you plan to do. You will know to take as little as possible. Dehydrated foods are good and light. Also plenty of places to get provisions, although watch the bit between Tyndrum and Kinlochleven as there aren't t...

Re: Insect repellant

Having been a keen fisherman for years before walking I have had a great deal of experience, sitting in one spot being eaten alive. I have tried lots of different stuff over the years but for me the best stuff is Jungle Formula. I lasts for ages and while it does not stop the little suckers flying a...

I did this on 29/9/13. I stayed in my camper in the car park, it said no overnight parking but no one bothered. No sheep on route just loads of red deer and grouse- best walk so far - hope weather is good for you all.

Re: West Highland Way - 7 or 8 days??

Hi, I did it twice last year - 4 days (oh my god) and 5 days solo with full 20k pack - still tough. The majority of it is easy going and after Inveranan the going is easier. The strech between Inversnaid and Inveranan is the worst going due to the terrain underfoot. If you new to walking distances 7...
