found, lense cap

We found a Nikon 52mm lense cap on the descent of Sgor Buidhe on Saturday 2nd June. It has some scratches on the front but may be important to someone. Contact me if it is yours.

Re: How old is old enough

I had my boys walking the easier Munro's in reasonable weather from the age of 6, so as long as you make well informed choices you will be fine.

Peak District

Just booked a holiday for my family in The Peak District in August. Does anyone have any advice on good routes in this part of the country or for that matter any 'must do's' or 'don't do's' ? Going to be staying in Little Longton, 11 miles from Buxton.

Re: Little Nippers

Our dog gets treated every 2 months with a solution to protect against ticks among many other beasties. Not cheap but hopefully well worth it eespecially if you take your dog into sheep and deer country.

Balmoral Cairns

This walk was very enjoyable without being in the slightest way taxing. The Queen was in residence but we were told that we should do the walk anyway but that we may be asked to leave the estate if we encountered any police officers, I am glad to say that we did not and had a very pleasant few hours...

Re: Holiday Cottage near Lake Windermere

Windermere can be very busy. Try Coniston, 2 fantastic pubs that sell very good and reasonably priced grub and walks straight from the front door. We stayed in the s/c apartments at Coniston Lodge over hogmany and can reccomend highly. http://www.conistonselfcateringaccommodation.co.uk/index.php?act...

Re: Naismith times on Route Planner

I've always used the rule of 12 minutes per Km and 12 minutes per 100m ascent. Simple, easy to remember and almost always accurate for me.

Re: camping stoves...

For two people I would reccomend the Primus Eta PacLite, check out what deals you can get from places such as Go Outdoors.

New Alt Berg Boots

I knew I was going to need to replace my trusty Brashers this year and this decision was hastened by the fact that during our walking holiday to Austria a small sliver of stone found it's way into my left boot and cut through the Goretex liner. I had already looked at a number of boots and read seve...

Re: Minerals/Gems in the Mountains

A very interesting topic. My son has a very keen interest in rocks, minerals and fossils and we were looking for some on our travels up An Socach onSaturday but with no luck. He did fair better in July when we were in Austria as he found several Garnetts at the foot of a glacier including one the si...

Austria

Hi folks it is a long time since I posted on here but I started a 3 year degree course at Glasgow University and that has taken up a lot of my time. As a reward for all my hard work the family and I are off to Obergurgl in Austria for 2 weeks in July to do a bit of walking and mountain biking. I won...

Re: Head torches

Stick with the Petzl as, in my opinion, the Black Diamond torches are prone to problems with their connector cables failing.

Re: Good suggestions for "kid friendly" Munros?

Hi Marag, I have a 6 and an 8yo and can concur that the Cairnwell Trio is a fine start, we have also done Ben Wyvis although that may be too far away. We also climbed Schiehallion this summer, my 8yo and myself thought it was OK but the 6yo and wife hated it. Stuart my 6yo found that his legs were t...
