Re: Climate change and hill walking

Marty, you claim that AGW has "massively out accelerated any natural warming". This is your opinion. Remember, there's no such thing as an exact science, it's opinion, it's a process. I will now present evidence that suggests that the AGW narrative is bogus, and the evidence is factual, no...

Re: Climate change and hill walking

Spade, here are some links to 2 websites which present good evidence that the AGW theory is doubtful at best and a hoax at worst- http://notrickszone.com/ "No tricks zone" lists hundreds if not thousands of research papers which suggest that other things control the climate, not CO2 http:/...

Re: Climate change and hill walking

Which climate change is that, are you talking about the warming parts of the natural warming and cooling cycles, or are you talking about the ridiculous theory that humans are catastrophically warming the planet via increasing CO2 levels from zero point zero three percent to zero point zero four per...

Re: New Sutherland Wind Farm alert

There is a website called Winderful which shows in graphical form the real time output of the majority of UK windfarms, which are spread across the UK's land and sea. If the wind were to be blowing perfectly at all windfarms this output would be 17,983 MW (megawatts). However the output today at 7am...

Re: Glen Coe Hydro Scheme

Gareth Harper, why would someone invent a press release like that? After all, we see such press releases every week. The point I'm making is that it's not worth spoiling remote glens for the tiny amount of energy produced. If you want the real reason for hydro schemes and other renewables, follow th...

Re: Glen Coe Hydro Scheme

To Gareth Harper, 2 questions for you: do you ever look up official data on anything; or do you come up with ideas in your head which are true because you say so, or because you want it to be true? (in the same way that when Trump was asked for evidence he replied "I'm the evidence") Here'...

Re: Glen Coe Hydro Scheme

For anyone who believes that small hydro schemes are worth it, this letter was in the paper yesterday: There is an appalling delusion that Scotland can be powered by hydro electricity. In 2012 there was even a press release claiming that 100% of Scotland's homes would be hydro powered by 2017. The 2...

Re: Pentland destruction

These people can't see beyond their bank balances and "smart" phone screens. Their website is full of phrases like "responsible" and "sustainable".

Re: Anyone for a spaceport?

Mr Harper, the "carbon intensity" of coal is between 786 and 990 g/kWh (source gov.uk, wiki). Note the correct unit is kWh not kW/h. I often see this mistake. Yes you didn't mention batteries but I was using it as an example because it's the "solution" most mentioned. It doesn't ...

Re: Anyone for a spaceport?

Mr Harper, if you're so worried about CO2 emissions, what on earth are you doing burning trees to keep warm? After all, when left alone those trees are absorbing and storing CO2. And studies suggest that wood burning releases more pollution per unit of energy produced than coal. If you want "su...

Re: Anyone for a spaceport?

Mr Harper, with all due respect, you start off well ie on population, but from then on you descend into naivety. Your biggest error is on energy "efficiency". If you were to reduce your heating etc in your house and reduce your energy use by, say, £500 yearly, would you set fire to this £5...

Is this going to be yet another white elephant and waste of 10s of millions of public money, like wave power?

Re: Braeriach Summit Camp - any water?

I set off to do exactly that on Sun night at 6.30 pm, but I had to continue well past Braeriach summit as it was too stony for a tent. Both streams on the plateau have water flowing, though the one nearer the top has much less water. Next day returning to White Well the clegs were terrible.
