Mullardoch Round in a day (Part Two)

Continued from Part One http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=45360 An Socach (Mullardoch) is a very special hill. It easily makes it into my top 10 list. Again we had stunning views out towards Torridon and now we could also see Bidean a'Choire Sheasgaich, my favourite munro,...

Mullardoch Round in a day (Part One)

It had been three years since this Dan and I Mamores.jpg when Dan and I traversed the whole of the Mamore ridge in torrential rain. http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13581 A few days later we had the challenge of the Mullardoch Round suggested to us. I mentioned it to Dan ...

A Streap way off Gulvain

Since I climbed it a few years ago, Gulvain has been one of my favourite hills in Scotland. Not normally one for sitting around or even eating that much when I’m moving in the hills, on the day I climbed it previously I had spent half an hour on the top eating my lunch and admiring the views over to...

Re: Knoydart Corbetts

Amazing photos. I did these two recently in the same day as Sgurr nan Ciche and Garbh Chioch Mor from Sourlies and it was one of the best days I've ever had. The views from Sgurr a' Choire-Bheithe are breathtaking and your photos certainly do it justice! You could sit on the top of that hill in good...

Re: Ten Munros in one day on the Ring O’ Steall

Hi, I think you are talking about the mamore ridge? Yes it's possible and is an amazing day out. I have tried it twice, first time failing at An Gearnach and the second time managing to do it (here is a link to our report if it helps at all http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&...

Re: 2013 - New Years Resolutions / Aspirations / Plans

If I reach 100 Corbetts by this time next year I will.be delighted. Living in Birmingham it's not easy! So that's 40 of those. And then to do my last three munros which I have had hanging over me for 18 months. But my mates have let me down-they won't let me go up without them and they are always to...

Re: Mamores North-South Traverse

Hi, I have done the whole ridge with a friend last summer but have also done it in various combinations. The great thing about the mamores apart from them being fantastic hills, is the fact that it is always easy to escape and get down whenever you want virtually. Here is my report from last summer ...

Re: End of year report.

I started the year hoping to complete my munros (started on 253) and then cracking 50 corbetts, of which i had only done 4 this time last year. Got off to a flyer and living in Birmingham it's not easy to get up all the time. I'd got down to three remaining munros by June and then left them alone. G...

Re: What is your nearest summit miss?

Ruadh Stac Mor in Fisherfield. A friend and myself set off from Poolewe at 4.30am in freezing weather April 2006. The weather was great in patches and then terrible again. We hadn't taken crampons and when we got to the small loch between Ruadh Stac Mor and A'Mhaighdean we had to turn straight up th...

Re: Complete Mamore Ridge traverse

Nicely done, and a bit of an epic :D . I have a vague notion to try this at some point, although I don't know if I'd make it. The two outliers at the eastern end would seem to be the real sting in the tail. Impressive stuff. It was something I had always wanted to do. Maybe it was because it was wh...

Re: Complete Mamore Ridge traverse

Yes Dooterbang, your report has already got me thinking about a Fannaichs traverse. That Mullardoch round is ridiculous. Dan texted to say it would be no problem, he may be going alone however on that occasion. Are you guys thinking about doing it? :D

Re: Nine Foxy Fannichs.

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun-seems to be the case when you do these long treks :D Great hills these. Did them in about three lots of three or something but this route definitely needs to be on our agenda. Fantastic effort though, never occurred to me to do all of them in a day. What makes th...

Re: Complete Mamore Ridge traverse

Hey dooterbang, thanks for the reply and the photo (and also rockhopper sums up our day perfectly) Firstly-that photo dooterbang really is awesome and it must have been amazing to be up on the top of the ridge at that time. Maybe we need to go back and do it all again so that we can experience it! :...

Complete Mamore Ridge traverse

It rained, and it rained……and then rained a bit more. After a long night of listening to the rain hammer down on the tent at the Glen Nevis campsite I knew when I woke up at 07.20 that I was in for a long day. So long that I told Dan to hang on for another hour because I couldn’t be bothered to get ...
