Re: From Fort William to Kinlochleven via Glen Nevis

If you wanted something harder with modest scrambling and a tough hill day, you could carry on to the top of Glen Nevis, see the Steall falls, then cross the Mamores via ascents of An Gearanach, An Garbhanach, Stob Choire a Chairn before dropping down Coire na Ba. This would be a long mountain walk...

Re: Getting to Kinloch Hourn from Fort William

At first glance you can get a taxi for £34 this afternoon Al. Horsham to Gatwick 16 miles. £30 Inverness to Inverness Airport 8.9 miles.....but point taken transport affordability, reliability , etc. is crap throughout the UK generally, but when you add in frequency of public transport, (if there is...

Re: Astonishing Assynt: Two nights at Suileag & a Canisp cli

Great stuff Mal. A fine adventure and outstanding pics. Almost 10 years since I was last at Suileag with a visit to Suilven and got beaten back off the ridge before the wall. Severe wind and tornado like waterspouts crossing the loch. I left 2 friends at Suileag for the night and walked back out mys...

Re: Getting to Kinloch Hourn from Fort William

If you have no flexibility with time or destination and you have the cash to spare, £130 is probably the going rate. I could see why some taxi drivers are happy to take it or leave it as it's not a great road and they could probably make similar money or more running about Fort William for 3 or 4 ho...

Re: Getting to Kinloch Hourn from Fort William

Isn't there a bus to Invergarry then hitch from there? If a car goes down the road to Kinlochhourn it will likely be hikers so they may just stop and pick you up. Yes possibly and at one time it would have been a no brainer, but many people now think hitching a lift is wrong, and wouldn't be willin...

Re: Ben alder parking

The advice from walkhighlands is to park at the level crossing. I believe after having spoke to the local community.

Edit - link added.

Re: Ben Alder day trip

Great stuff and looked like a fine day out. It's a great area and quite close for me, so I've been in there a few times. Regarding the Lancet Edge, it doesn't fit in too well when doing the four munros, but I guess it just means a bit of back tracking. Well worth a visit though, and looks far more i...

Re: The North Face

I had a look at this and the videos highlight issues at climbing walls, running clubs etc. I don't think the issues apply to folk hillwalking in the Scottish Highlands. Maybe it would be handy for guides and instructors, but generally I don't see any barrier that doesn't affect all people and cultur...

Re: The North Face

If its not obvious to you why going into an environment dominated by another dominant culture and where you stand out might be intimidating maybe the course would do you good. If its the same dominant culture that run the society in which you are marginalised, vote for racist reactive governments a...

Re: Skye trail transportation

There's not so much hitch hiking in the highlands nowadays. Though the demographics have changed, you should still be able to get a lift to Uig or Portree where the bus options are better.

All the best :D

Re: Oban Bothy in April?

I'm not sure why the MBA persist with Oban Bothy, when it's unavailable a big chuck of the year. According to the MBA website the opening times vary from year to year. Not sure what the thought process behind that is with the estate. :? I also wonder about this though I get the point Essan is makin...
