Re: Question about the Strathfarrar 4

In recent years the middle estate along the road has resisted any access in Winter. This year the MCoS have done a deal of sorts but with lots of provisions. The non munro bagging thing suffers the logical impasse in that an ascent of sat Sgurr na Ruaidhe means that in the absence of teleportation ...

Re: Question about the Strathfarrar 4

Does anyone know how far you are permitted to drive up the glen in the summer. I’ve noted the restriction about where you can park near the deanie power station but could you be dropped off further up the glen if the car wasn’t going to remain there? Yes, you can drive right up to the Monar Dam, th...

Re: Opinions: Sgurr a' Choire-bheithe

I've never done the hill but the path in to Barrisdale must be one of the finest coastal routes anywhere and I would highly recommend it, though it would be a brutal walk out. A couple of years ago I went in from Kinlochhourn to Ladhar Bheinn then back down to Barrisdale where I camped, though I fel...

Re: Fisherfield munros from Kinlochewe feasible in a day?

I've marked on the OS map where I would recommend taking the bike to, but certainly possible to go further. Good to hear bikes are no longer being frowned upon. I remember something about concerns about damage to the paths. I've also been in from the slabs and camped at Loch an nid. A must visit pla...

Re: Fisherfield munros from Kinlochewe feasible in a day?

I am probably going to split my remaining four Fisherfields into two days - A'Mhaighdean and RSM from Poolewe (the track is mostly bikeable if you don't mind single track and drainage channels) and Sgurr Ban/MCMF from Loch a'Braoin. Hey Jupe. I've cycled in twice from Poolewe to stay at the bothy a...

Re: Lady Cobbold

I was up past Glenuaig lodge today. The gravestone is clearly visible from the track to the lodge.

Lady Evelyn Cobbold 1867 - 1963

Re: Sleeping in car for Braeriach

Can you get a proper nights sleep in your car? Have you tried it before? Also have you thought about toilet facilities? There are people live nearby at Whitewell, it's not somewhere I would wish to sleep. If you are set on sleeping in your car, a lay-by away from any homes is probably your best opti...

Re: Parking at the end of Glen Nevis?

The end of road car park is free. It is hit or miss but sometimes total mayhem on that last stretch of road. I would try to be there by 7am if it was me. The walk to the Steall Falls is extremely popular.

There is other parking nearby at the lower falls £3 a day I believe.

Re: Inchcolm Island = Wow

Great stuff. I visited the island a few years ago. I used the train. There is a good service to Dalmeny. A good option if parking is an issue and even if not. If you are travelling from Fife you get a run across the bridge as well. :D

Re: Ring of Steall scrambling and exposure

Have a look at this video at 6.38. https://youtu.be/0p8-MxFFZfQ?si=29bBsr_aXCvKZ4eS This is the bypass approaching from the north and the boulder that I think the WH route description is referring too. It's subjective, Slightly unnerving for some..a walk in the park for others, you certainly wouldn'...

Re: Ring of Steall scrambling and exposure

Not sure if he's keeping an eye or if I can mention him @Paul Webster, in case he wants to check the route guide. The bypass on the left on the Devils ridge (when heading north) is the route I have usually taken and I think the description is fair enough. Everyone has a different perception of what...

Re: Eriskay - can you get there by public transport with a d

Dogs, unfortunately, always seem to be a divisive subject on these forums. I don't have a dog myself but in my experience on public transport, I have never had an issue with dogs...wish I could say the same for humans.

...apologies if I'm human bashing! :D

Re: Ring of Steall scrambling and exposure

I've done this route and parts of it, in both directions. The new fad with the selfie, fish eye lens, totally distorts reality and gives a false picture. Walk with Wallaces video shows the hardest part of the route accurately with the guy in the blue top approaching the boulder at 4.01 in the video ...
