fellbarrow and low fell questions

Does anyone know if Fellbarrow and/or Low Fell at present have any dog unfriendly stiles or unfenced cattle grazing on the route from Thackthwaite?

Re: Scardy Cat at everything or feels like it

I agree with kmai1961: " * In order to identify things that challenge you (but hopefully not put you off), and to be as prepared as possible for them, use the excellent WH route descriptions and read as many user reports as possible before you go." then if you are worried or uncertain abou...

Seat Sandal question

Has anyone gone up the path from Dumail Raise recently and is it difficult near the waterfalls due to erosion or rockiness? Some reports say it is a bit dodgy, others that there is no problem all the way up.

Re: Carrock Fell route question

Thanks Anthony - Kirk Fell isn't even on the radar. I've now read your posts about it and Great End....scary stuff - well done. I will check out both routes for C fell and decide on the day, weather permitting of course.

Re: Carrock Fell route question

I am still swithering/slithering between the two short routes. Is it far from the road at Stone End to the start of the worst bit? I might have a look at it but wouldn't want to waste time and energy getting to it only to find it was un-doable. I did Souther Fell from Mungrisedale a year or so ago a...

Re: Carrock Fell route question

Thanks JKLL and dav2930. I am hoping there will be no snow - last time I checked the forecast is quite good, but that could change by the end of next week. I can at least do a recce on arrival and if it doesn't work out I will revert to plan A and go the longer route via Driggeth track on the day I'...

Carrock Fell route question

Has anyone been up Carrock Fell via the Swineside road route recently and is it likely to be fairly straightforward in winter? Various posts and websites suggest it is hard to follow at the start. I do not want to tackle the Stone End route as it sounds frustrating going up and difficult coming down...

question re bowscale fell route

I am planning to do Bowscale Fell and Bannerdale Crags but the route from Mungrisdale seems to be ruled out as the bridge which I believe was near the junction of Bullfell Beck and the Glenderamackin River was washed away in the last big floods and so far as I know has not been replaced - or has it?...

Re: Mungrisdale.. ..or not?

Thanks Poppiesrars - that is helpful. When I looked at the map when there, I did think it was A' s Pike then changed my mind (wishful thinking) but looking again now - I believe you are right - I can see the wee tarn - only just - tiny indeed. Which means I still have the pleasure of doing MC to loo...

Mungrisdale.. ..or not?

I was on Blencathra today via Blease Fell - the easy route. Walked the ridge from one end to the other and noticed a definite peak roughly to the north with a clear straight path to it from the end of the ridge, passing a tiny tarn on the way. Thinking it might be Mungrisedale Common I went over to ...

Re: a question re swirral edge

Thanks both for replies. I am just back from Glenridding where I decided to stick to plan A - Catstycam on Friday and Raise and White Side on Saturday. I had a good look at Swirral Edge and while the first bit looks harmless enough the steep bit at the other end did not look do-able for me, especial...

a question re swirral edge

Is there an alternative, easy path running alongside the edge itself that a non-scrambler with two left feet and an excitable dog could manage without actually falling off?
