Re: Have you ever been in serious trouble in winter on the h

She was fine - i suppose we should have sawn her open, climbed inside and waited out the storm in true pioneering fashion. It would have served her right!

Re: Have you ever been in serious trouble in winter on the h

I grew up in the Highlands and spent a lot of my time in the hills or on the sea, both at work and at play. I was pretty fit and knew what I was doing. The one time I realised I was in serious trouble was when myself, aged about 19, and the father of the guy I worked for went looking for a lost cow ...

Re: Armadale to Kylerea Ferry Mountain bikeable?

Ages since I've been on here so apologies to Danielskye for not responding. I think it would be quite difficult to bike it, lots of pushing called for! The path, such as it is, is terribly wet and there is a lot of shrubbery in places. Still, everything is possible so don't let me discourage you; ju...

Knoydart, Sleat and Lochaber

Knoydart, Sleat and Lochaber In 1979 I spent the Summer drystane dyking in Knoydart with my stepfather Neil MacDonald. It was the first time we'd spent much time together since I left home in 1970, and the last time we ever worked together. That Summer we became friends, and we both became very fon...

Re: Brecon Beacons 2.5 day walking route?

Hi Nychiker, bit complicated this! If I was you I wouldn't go to Abergavenny - it's quite far over to the East of the Park and quite populated and it's a fair distance to Lyn y fan. I think you would be better catching the train from London to Swansea and getting a bus to Craig y nos - see Cymru Con...

Re: Armadale to Kylerea Ferry - Eigg all over our faces

Sadly we just walked following the old drover's road detailed on Heritage Trails. It's a great route with superb views and it would be nice if it was preserved while it's still traceable. A bit of drainage would do it for the time being. Though wellies are advisable a raft is not yet necessary. I do...

Re: Armadale to Kylerea Ferry

Floating through might be quite fun but I have a vague memory that the current runs the other way, so you would end up on Eigg... Cycling would be a very good idea but my teenage daughter doesn't like cycling. Last time I came over Kylerea Ferry on a bicycle was in 1968. I camped somewhere up the gl...

Re: Armadale to Kylerea Ferry

Thanks Caberfeigh, that's what I thought. I'll have to reconsider. What I'm thinking about is to get the ferry from Mallaig to Skye, go across the wee ferry at Kylerhea, then walk back down to Mallaig. Surprising dearth of information about walking up there, but I haven't gone into it in a great dea...

Next summer in the Highlands

Hi, I'm planning a walk with my family in the West Highlands this summer to revisit some old haunts and hopefully find some new ones. I'll probably be bothering the forum with questions... I'd like to take in Knoydart on the way. if anyone has walked down the track that runs from Inverie over to Loc...
