Re: White-tailed eagle

Excellent shots MG. My best sighting of one was not far away from yours - from close to Loch Tollaidh.

I have not canoed but have had enjoyed seeing wildlife fairly close from a dinghy. Had three porpoises glide by and a great skua land on the water close while sailing on Loch Gairlosh

Can understand not getting a good shot of one, but it must be great seeing one when you are on the water.

A couple from this week

Was lucky enought to get some good views of a dipper earlier this week. Unfortunately the longest lens I have was not long enough so I had to crop it a lot https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53596352439_e715f373a7_b.jpg Dipper3 by Dave Marley , on Flickr The coal tit was very obliging(ie it stayed ...

Re: A good couple of hours

Yes, it is a short eared owl. The guy who pointed them out to us said the hedge is a regular place for them to sit and roost in during the winter. It was the best view I have had of one of these great looking birds.

A good couple of hours

Spent a couple of hours at the Nene Washes yesterday. Hoped to see the cranes and did have a long distance view of one but the highlight of the time was this one. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53569017698_a7f1733e63_b.jpg SEO by Dave Marley , on Flickr We had walked very close to the hedge a l...

Re: Left behind and thrown away rubbish.

I don't know if the people who drop/throw litter think it is alright - someone else/the council will clear it or they are providing someone with a job, or they simply do not think. They drink or eat something and just drop the container without registering they have done it. I suspect the latter, bu...

Re: Food plans and frying pans

I wouldn't bother if it's really just a one nighter. Normal hill lunches, pack of mini port pies andsome chocolate for dinner and a malt loaf for breakfast. I can cope one day without coffee. I agree. For one night I would keep it very simple. You could do as prog99 has suggested but if you want yo...

Re: Balance/Shmalance

I had Meniere's disease over ten years ago. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/menieres-disease/ There wasn't sudden deafness but my hearing became fuzzy and I suddenly felt dizzy enough to need to sit on a wall until it passed(about 5 mins or so). The world wasn't spinning but I felt if I tried to walk ...

Re: Hills Less Tramelled - Glamaig (and an eagle checks us o

Yes, it a white tailed eagle. A juvenile but not, I think, a young from this year. This year's young could have fledged now but the plumage would be better condition than in the one you saw.

Great account of what was clearly an excellent walk, great photos too, and you got a good view of a WTE.

Re: Beinn Eighe or Beinn Alligin - What's Best for My Partne

I think your decision to go for Beinn Eighe is the right one. The path starting on the north side of the A896 opposite Loch Bharranch is easy to follow and without any exposure up to the cairn. A very small section from there to the top of Spidean Coire nan Clach is more exposed but only VERY slight...

Re: Rosemarkie beach and Hillockhead walk

I've not seen this walk before, it looks interesting. Thanks The Walkhighlands guide to the walk does include - The shoreline section of the walk cannot be completed for the hours around high tide (check tide times before setting out) and you were doing it the day after a full Moon so the tide would...

Re: Proposed bylaws on camp fires in Cairngorms.

I saw the BBC News article too and thought while is a good idea how will it be funded? The only way such behaviour might be stopped is if there are enough wardens/rangers to make sure it doesn't happen - not a desirable job to have. As said it is the minority of people whose view seems to be 'I can ...
