Re: Cape Wrath trail alternative route?

Yes you can go up Glen Ling without any problems. I've done it this way twice; taking a route from Morvich to Dornie then up Glen Ling joining the trail near Bendronaig. The hardest part underfoot was from Bendronaig to Strathcarron. I wouldn't advise going down to Attadale and roadwalking to Strath...

Re: Falls of Glomach

As Scotland's clumsiest man I avoided the Falls of Glomach both times I've done the CWT. I went via Dornie, there is pavement to Inverinate then some verge walking then a high quiet road you can go off onto that will take you into the village. I stayed at the campsite at Ardelve. From there I went u...

Re: 2 Day Hike Accessible by Public Transport

I did Great Trossachs path last week West to East with a wild camp by Loch Katrine. You could adjust your route to finish in Aberfoyle rather than Callander and that would cut out the need to return home via Stirling, Be aware if you do the Trossachs path that Stronaclachar cafe and toilets are shut...

Re: The Southern Upland Way - Portpatrick to Bargrennan

Well done  Some nice pics there, reminding me of the long stretch between Luce and Bargrennan I did in 2005... Never mind the bears, what about the cattle?! They looked a bit menacing, the way the were all packed together and looking towards you  The SUW is a walk I've always wanted to...

Re: Loch Katrine walk

On a similar note, Glen Gyle next to Loch Katrine seems to have been fenced off for a few years for work of some kind, does anyone know if they are finished yet?

Re: Islay MBA bothy closure.

The book combined with rustic air bnb popularity. Staycations , NC500, there's a lot of factors. But the book certainly hasn't helped.

Re: Fife Pilgrim Way

The Hebridean Way isn't covered either. It's a good trail.

Re: Affric Kintail way

There's a few miles of road walking on the way into Cannich. The grassy verge is wide enough and the traffic isn't too bad but it isn't the most pleasant walk. The eastern half of Glen Affric has a lot of estate fencing and when I was there in 2018 it was pretty unsightly in parts after the work on ...

Re: New Coronavirus Law

I'm beginning to wonder if the story is even true and has possibly been put out there to deter folk from taking to the hills. It does not seen to make sense. Who made the call? If not them, who? and where were they? Were they in difficulty? were they lost? what is inappropriate gear on a sunny dry ...

Re: Stay at home

It looks like we can go roughly 5 miles but doesn't say anything about camping. I'm trying to work out the distance from my front door to the Kilpatricks which are the nearest hills to me.

* That's if we go into stage 1 on the 28th.

Re: Crossing place River Pean for Strathan bridge.

If you mean the Allt a' Chaorainn, I would cross before the river runs down into the wooded gorge. Unless it is in spate you should find a place where you can cross fairly easily. From there just follow the right bank to the bridge across the River Pean.

Re: Peanmeanach bothy to close as an open shelter

There's an article written by G.Allan in the Guardian today about bothy walks to MBA bothies for overnighters and a non MBA bothy is mentioned as a good place for a 'pit-stop'.
The print version also suggest they are good places for 'free nights' and you don't need to take a tent with you.

Re: Cape Wrath Trail Ullapool Accommodation

If you've got the time, Ullapool is great just for a resupply or even a day off. Well worth it. There's a good outdoor shop there too.
The walk out to rejoin the main trail is also very pleasant.

Re: Freeze dried meals on WHW

There are water taps outside Rowardennan Hotel, Inversnaid Hotel, Beinglas Campsite which is on the trail, Bridge of Orchy Hotel and Inveroran Hotel. I think the streams north of there would probably be fine.
