Re: TN Laser comp 1, MSR Freelite 1 or Nordisk Telemark?

Just in case people are still reading this post..... I have a Nordisk Telemark. Having used it in both summer and winter I'd definitely recommend it. It's stood up to some pretty gnarly conditions, is pretty quick to erect even in bad conditions and has enough space for storage/emergency cooking. Ob...

Loch Lyon Loneliness

Yay we can get back to the hills! Having spent the Winter updating kit, going ultralight and planning trips, this was the first time I could get up to Scotland and the Bank Holiday gave a longer weekend. The forecast was mixed but it looked like Sunday was a goer. I'd done Beinn Tulaichean and Cruac...

Re: Hi all

Welcome to WH 8)

Where abouts near the Peaks are you? I'm on the Stoke side, for my sins!

Am also big on my hill walking and wild camping.
Fingers crossed April/May sees the green light fur trips North again.

Re: Tent for Solo Backpacking - 2.2kg too heavy?

I was fortunate to be given a Nordisk Telemark. Having done numerous backpack and multi day Munro trips with it it's been perfect for me. As others have said, if you can save some weight throughout your kit it helps. Your big three are Rucksack, Tent and Sleeping Bag. These give you the biggest oppo...

Re: Achilles heel pain in once comfortable boots?

For what it's worth..... Following similar ankle, achillies type pains my physio told me it's all about stretching (yourself not the boots!) I now do quad and calf stretches along with some basic squats everyday and before/after a walk. Never had problems since. Google "stretches for Hikers&quo...

Re: Cairngorms Backpacking Trip

Some great pointers, thank you.
Would agree its best to do as much as possible without having a full pack but that made it pretty difficult to include all the munros I'm keen to do.

Mullach Coire?
You mean Mullach Clach a'Bhlair? If so, I've already done the Glen Feshie pair :)

Re: Cairngorms Backpacking Trip

Thanks jmarkb.
Yes I know its a big trip. Was spoilt with weather and lack of snow this Easter!
Will research escapes and bail out options.
Will only set off if its looking half decent anyway.
At least we can get weather forecast updates nowadays once we get any mobile signal.
Here's hoping 🤞

Re: Cairngorms Backpacking Trip

Something similar was my walk from Attadale to Struy over the hills which included 9 Munros and 3 Corbetts over 5 days and included public transport,my only disappointment was missing the 4th Corbett on the last day,due to a very wild weather which drained me. Cannot other any advice as you will ha...

Cairngorms Backpacking Trip

Hi Folks. After a successful 5 day packpacking trip to Corrour this Easter I am looking at a similar trip next Easter to the Cairngorms. Starting and finishing at Linn of Dee, my route takes in 13 Munros leaving out Carn a'Mhaim, Cairngorm and Bynack More as I've already done these. A 56mile route w...
