The guidance does not say if the five mile to start point outside your LA is driving distance or a straight line from start point to boundary.
What gets me is these people are paid to do a job correctly in wording the law and its not being done.

Re: Hillwalker or hiker ?
Well
Seems like I started a wee discussion.......
For the record, I have always considered a hike as a long walk mostly on level ground, ie not up to mountain summits.
Similar to rambling (although I consider that shorter walks)
To me hillwalker describes what we do.

Hillwalker or hiker ?
Anyone else notice the tendancy in the media to refer to hillwalkers as hikers lately ?
Seems like another Americanisation in our language.
Resist !

Re: 5 mile "advice"
Watching the FM statements and q and a session today, I do not know how anybody can think the 5 miles or local relates to sports. She clearly says that it is to stop crowding at tourist places. That is for LEISURE.. Like parks, towns, beaches,Loch Lomond SIDE. Its okay to travel further for golf,fishing...

Re: 5 mile "advice"
This from Mountaineering Scotland website. It describes what I was trying to say in my original post. (in bold) "Of particular relevance to Mountaineering Scotland members is that everyone would be permitted to travel short distances for outdoor leisure and exercise – although the advice is to ...

Re: 5 mile "advice"
I would suggest that to understand the post you would have to have seen the live q and a session. Nicola said she can’t legislate for everything in the document. She said to use our common sense. The mountain rescue issue is another issue. I would side with them. But remember that the teams and moun...

5 mile "advice"
With a risk at being shot down in flames here, can I highlight the following. I watched the Update live on Thursday 21st May where Nicola stated the stages out of lockdown. She was asked if the 5 mile local rule was rigid and she said no it is not. It is advice. She said the 5 mile advice was to sto...

Bag it while you can !
$matches[2] A lot has changed since the last trip report. The track from 318164 on OS map has been bulldozed almost all the way to the top to facilitate extensive tree planting. The trees have been planted on summit "ridge" also so get up there soon ! There is space to park at start of tr...

A warning of aggressive cattle walking from Newton Bridge
While walking with my dog (under close control on lead) on track between Newton Bridge (in Sma Glen near Crieff, Perthshire) to Auchnafree, we approached a herd of cattle that were on and near the track.Approx grid reference 865318. There was no alternative route we could take as there were some cow...

Re: Corbett only to be done in dry conditions
Thanks for the report.
We climbed this by roughly the same route although we avoided the hags completely by staying close to the west side until going over the minor top before the Corbett.
