Re: In Pinn - will it all go horribly wrong?

I'd suggest going for a practice abseil in a less exposed spot with your daughter first. This should allow you to relax about that part.

Re: Parking in Dalwhinnie

I parked opposite the distillery, plenty of room there and if you're cycling then another kilometer is nothing

Re: Tackling Skye

Some excellent replies here, one thing I would add, buy a guidebook. This 1 has some very accurate descriptions https://www.amazon.co.uk/Skye-Scrambles-Scottish-Mountaineering-Scramblers/dp/0907521991

Re: frugal way to get 1:25k topo maps on a GPS device?

Another App for android phone is "maverick" only this one is free to download all maps, you just scroll over the area you are going to be in and it is automatically stored in memory for use when you are off line

Re: Cape wrath Info needed. Falls of Glomach alternative?

Rather than dropping down Coire Easach it looks like you could continue along for about another KM going up slightly before descending the path down Alt Tarsuinn, this looks a lot less steep and an obvious dog leg around the steep part

Re: Calves and Kreels and How to avoid the deep bogs

Thanks for a great report and pictures - they certainly kept me clear of the worst of the bogs which following your route weren't too bad at all - as a bonus I managed the river crossing booted up as well, mind you i got a strange look from two people who were just putting there socks and boots back...
