West of Cader Idris

A clockwise circuit from Llynau Cregennan. With Val and Janet. Lovely morning and very quiet for a Sunday. No one seen until we hit the Cader Idris pony track. Then no one else seen once we reach the ridge and head west up to the first summit of Craig-Las. Descend to the 480m col. Janet waits here w...

Beinn Iaruinn

With Val. Wet and very windy (would have included the Graham to the SW in better conditions). Very steep climb, almost scrambling in places directly up the spur on S side of corrie. Some fleeting views on top. Descent on N side of corrie is only a little less steep.

Meall a' Phubuill

With Val and Phil. As there is a strong westerly wind we plan to do most of the approach up the glen and from the summit return east along the high ridge of Druimm Gleann Laoigh. Showey start but it greatly improves. Windy as predicted but superb views. Lovely walking east along the ridge with a 100...

Beinn a Chaisgein Mor

Based at Carnmore for climbing but clag too low. With Ian C. Interesting scramble up ravine / gully between Carnmore crag and Sgurr na Laocainn. Break out into sun at around 600m. Lovely views wandering up to summit. Descend E back into the mist to pick up the stalkers path back to Carnmore.

Knott and Great Calva

Pleasant walk passing the Lingy bothy. Rather cloudy and Knott is actually in the cloud, but clear by time I get to Great Calva. There is a resonable descent down the west slope with a reasonable path joining the Cumbrian Way at a foot bridge and circular enclosure. The last of the 6 main 'Back o Sk...

Carrock Fell and High Pike

Good day with Val. Park at the interestingly named 'Apronful of Stones' starting up the steep 'trod'/ Further Gill route on east face of Carrock Fell. Quite windy on top but bright and great views. Initially trackless ground west but pick up a path after a mile or so and on up to High Pike. Pleasant...

Mungrisdale circuit

Anticlockwise circuit from Mungrisdale with Janet and Val. Steeply up Bowscale Fell as a heavy shower comes in but this clears to leave a largely bright day. S over Bannerdale Crag (steep spur direct to summit looks good) and descend S ridge to valley path and bridge. Val and Janet head back down th...

Fuar Bheinn and Creach Bheinn

Good circuit. Pretty steep start but ok - just inside the plantation. The 2 Corbett summits in the cloud but in the sun along the Meal nan Each south ridge. No one else seen.

Garbh Bheinn by The Great Ridge

Brill day with Val doing the Great Ridge incl the direct start. Finishes right on the summit. Small female adder seen on the walk in and ptarmigan with chicks on the way down. Moel Hebog group

Lovely weather still - walk up Moel Hebog with Janet from near Beddgellert. Lot of flies on summit rocks but none biting ones happily. While Janet rests on a less fly infested spot just N of summit, I head out over Moel Ogof and Moel yr Lefn. Had intended to do a circular walk over these but Janet f...

Sail Mhor

On my own - not too surprising with the now rubbish weather. The Allt Airdeasaidh river is in spate (impressive waterfalls and gorge) and makes for a tricky crossing higher up. SW onto the subsidiary summit Ruigh Mheallain 594m (interestingly highest point is a large boulder - quite tricky to climb ...

Sgurr an Airgid

An E to W traverse from Morvich to Coirre Dhuinnid. Lovely walking on largely soft turf to the W hill - Sgurr an Uillt Tharsuinn 578m and a descent NE to gain the upper valley. Good track SW passing watrefalls back to road. Well worth doing if cars can be arranged.
