Re: A lot of miles behind them
A great day despite the weather! I was amazed at the lack of maps and compasses etc, when ten people are huddled round a map in the p***ing rain it confirms the need for everyone to be well prepared and equipped.....and always keep your group in view if you're leading in misty conditions

Re: Litter on the Ben
I was just commenting today on how many cigarette butts you see on the hills. Whilst I personally cannot imagine anything worse than having the fresh air around me poisoned by smoke (especially after all the effort you go to to get the fresh air!), I understand some people are addicted and need a fa...

Re: Not quite Cruach Adrain & Beinn Tulaichean
Definitely a walk that needs crampons/minispikes. Had the same experience as you last year in March/April, very frustrating not to hit the tops but sensible to turn back - I felt the same fear!!! Got minispikes for Christmas - the best present ever, and they give your feet a lot more security on ice...

Re: Cruachan - quite nice!
The conditions looked promising for an inversion up Ben Challum on 28/1/11 but no such luck. Your pictures are amazing so hope I'll experience one some day soon. Cruachan is a target for the summer, can't wait!!

Re: Top Notch Walk
FANTASTIC walk, Oldman, and always a pleasure, thanks! (Much better than boring Ben Chonzie the other week :? ) I saw one of the Ptarmigan chicks flying so must correct you on that one before someone else does  Can't wait for Cruachan, just need another free day which is hard between our busy s...

Re: Easy but unspectacular
The views would have been better later in the day, I think, but it was a pretty boring walk with little reward at the top! And we only had a fleeting glance of a mountian hare (after seeing no deer at Stuchd an Lochain the previous week too!).

Re: First midgies of 2010?
We killed a lot of them and were fortunate to escape without any bites! Just so surprised that our first encounter with the little blighters was at the summit, we'll be better prepared next time!

First midgies of 2010?
Forecast was good with a very slight chance of lightning later - better get started early then, at least early for us. Drag dad (Oldman to you) out of bed and off to Stuchd an Lochain to be on the hill by 9AM. On the way up sun was shining and weather was excellent. Parking was easy and we started t...
