Re: Ben Vorlich (Loch Earn) conditions

Yes, would love to do Stuc but the mention of scrambling did rather put me off! I managed the scrambly bit on Meall nan Tarmachan and also the Ptarmigan ridge approach to Ben Lomond, both of which gave me the collywobbles (particularly the moment when I dropped my water bottle off on Meall nan Tarma...

Re: Ben Vorlich (Loch Earn) conditions

Thanks for the info, it was very helpful. We went up New Year's Day last year in very different conditions and just made it to the start of the ridge before turning back. $matches[2] This year we made it a lot further, but frustratingly, still not to the summit (although we were so, so close) due to...

Ben Vorlich (Loch Earn) conditions

Anyone been up Ben Vorlich in the last week or so? My sister and I are planning to go on New Year's Day and just wondering what the snow cover's like now that we've had so much warm weather. Thanks.

Re: Perthshire Sunset and stars above Ben Vrackie

Looks fantastic, makes me realise that I need to build up confidence with hiking with a head torch!

Re: bellyful of Lairig Ghru wind and a change of heart

Was this last Saturday? I took one look at the wind speeds on the weather forecast and decided that I'd hike on Sunday instead :)

Re: Ben Lomond - am I brave enough for Ptarmigan Ridge?

Glad you didn't let the cows put you off! Hidden cows do sound rather unnerving :)

Re: Ben Lomond - am I brave enough for Ptarmigan Ridge?

Aye, it was an incredible day for it, and looks like we've more to come this weekend :). Planning to brave the Tarmachan ridge to continue the exposure therapy!

Re: Ben Lomond - am I brave enough for Ptarmigan Ridge?

I gave the cow on the path a wide berth, but it seemed to be far more interested in eating than it was in me!

On checking the mountain weather forecast for the weekend, there was a pretty similar pattern across Scotland - gale force winds on Saturday, calm and sunny on Sunday. That made my decision about which day to go hiking pretty straightforward, and given that I had to be in Glasgow on Sunday evening, ...

Incredibly sunny day on Carn a'Mhaim

The weather forecast was fantastic and my sister Jen was coming down from Shetland to Aberdeen, so meeting up in the Cairngorms for the day seemed like the perfect plan. After a lot of discussion about the logistics we decided to meet at the Braemar Bothy which turned out to be the perfect choice as...
