Re: Assynt / Coigach - current midge status

I parked up in Kinlochewe 10 days ago and the midges were horrendous. But I was parked in trees and the air was still.
As soon as I started on my way I didn't have any issues. Arrived back to my car mid afternoon and they were gone.

Skye Munro's - car parking

I've yet to tackle a Skye Munro and plan to make a start this summer. But wondering about how busy the car parking areas are likely to be? Summer hols, staycations and Skye's popularity are a concern. First target is Bla Bheinn starting from the car park at Loch Slapin. It's a hike to Skye and would...

Re: Heat 1: Fisherfields 7+2 round with cloud inversion

A sensational walk report  Your photo's are perfect Alteknacker. Tackling those in this heat is no mean achievement. I actually decided against walking on Sunday past for that very reason. Finding running water just now is an issue. I was in the Cairngorms two weeks ago and there was little to...

Re: Cairngorm parking charges

I parked there this morning to tackle Ben Macdui. I was approached by someone in officialdom ( or looking like it! ). He handed me a leaflet explaining their list of works that the £2 contributes to. I was more than happy to stump up. If I parked in Perth for 5 hours it would cost more  He told...

Re: Right or left?

I did it clockwise.

The descent off Sgurr a'Mhaim wasn't fun due to scree. I'd to ascend this way.

And take lots of water as there's isn't much available after the wire bridge.

Enjoy. It's a cracking day out

Re: Lost on Ben Wyvis

Hard to believe someone would think it's ok to go hill walking without a map or compass. You wouldn't go to a strange city/country/anywhere without a city map, satnav or road atlas. Even on straight forward days it's reassuring to have them to fall back on. Almost as important as jelly babies :D Par...

Re: Attire for the Cairngorms in late July?

Amy Our maps are usually 1;50,000. But 1;25,000 are available. Maybe for comfort 1;25,000 would be better for you. We rarely have marked paths in Scotland ( in the hills anyway ). So brush up on map reading and compass use. That said the more popular Cairngorm hills have well defined paths. If you'r...

Re: Attire for the Cairngorms in late July?

Amy You're correct. July in the Cairngorms could mean anything. That means bringing several layers, gloves and hats. You probably won't need them but check weather forecasts the night before and then make a decision. Then again , I've been up top in shorts and a T-shirt 8) I take it you have a compa...

Re: Lightning strikes..not once but twice

Davie

That's a horrific read. I hope everyone is on the mend.

It's not difficult breaking a bone whilst taking a tumble. Been v lucky so far. Just the odd scrape and bruise. :)

Re: Walk from Roy Bridge to take in the Grey Corries

Sounds like a bit of a hike. But going by car maybe saves you an hour max .

To beef the day up a touch take in Stob Ban as well. All 4 from Roy Bridge would be a 10 hour day.

Good luck!
