Re: Insect bites - a warning

it's recommended that you remove them with a little gizmo. I've not found one that really works though! After reading this blog , I was aware of the tick risk. My wife is also a microbiologist, and given advice to GPs on Lyme Disease. This summer at Loch Goil we found ticks on myself, my wife and o...

Re: Cycle and Walk Munros

Reports for Beinn Bhuidhe in Argyll (from Loch Fyne) suggest biking the initial 6km. It's a private road/track so no cars allowed.

Beinn Mhanach in snow

Seeing as all my reports so far have been in perfect summer conditions, I thought I'd share some snowy pics. We were staying in Auch Lodge in January, with patchy snow above 400m. We went by the normal route, looping anti-clockwise round Beinn a' Chuirn. The river crossings were fun, we used a pair ...

Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ime

A great walk in the Arrochar Alps, good weather and views. My GPS (on smartphone) recorded 15.5km, which is more than the 13.5km of the route guide on this site. I will check on a paper map, but I followed the normal direct route (EDIT: seems 13.5km is most accurate and my phone over measured). Succ...

Re: Beinn Mhanach

The river in Glen Auch shouldn't be a problem. Water level can vary but I had no trouble with standard boots and no gaiters crossing it several times at different points. The worst case is that you stay on the east side between fords #1 and #2, which is about a mile, between fords #3 and #4 I'd reco...

Re: Beinn Mhanach

Really enjoyed this one. We were staying at the Auch holiday cottages so the choice to climb Beinn Mhanach was an easy one. We walked the route described, up the south face as it had less snow on it and so made the climbing easier. The views are spectacular down the Auch Glen. Descending to the nort...

Re: Not in a van

Snow chains are the answer. Fortnight ago we were in Bridge of Orchy for a week, thought I'd get chains just in case, always wanted some too! :D Didn't use them all week, but on Saturday I needed them visiting a friend in Huddersfield. I got the car half way up a steep street, and then the ice rink ...

Re: Big Snow

Got back from Scotland holiday last week and it started snowing! :)
There's been 5 inches here in Leeds for a week now. Yesterday I walked on Bleaklow in the Peaks, plenty of snow.

Re: Just saying Hello

Ha, no it's not. Afraid I can't claim any link to the great man, other than a liking for the hills! Not sure why I went for a pseudonym, but in these days of online privacy concerns. A former employer once searched a colleagues names in google and found rants on some mailing list about drunken escap...

Ben Lomond

One of those special sunny, roasting hot days a few years ago.

Just saying Hello

Another Hello today. Joined the site this weekend, it looks very good. I like the map feature, and the way this links into the Munros you've climbed, and routes / maps.
