Loch Lomond & Cowal Way Part 2

Day 3 of the walk was perhaps the most enjoyable, longest and challenging leg. The weather conditions were perfect and I took a leisurely drive from Arrochar to Cairndow to catch a late morning bus to Strachur taking in the views over Loch Long and the Pass of Glen Croe. Cairndow village is a nice s...

Loch Lomond & Cowal Way Part 1

To avoid carrying a heavy pack, I used Arrochar campsite as a base, travelling by car and bus to start and end destinations of each day. Bus fares are very good value and worth including for the very scenic routes. Day 1 Drive to Clachan of Glendaruel, bus to Portavadie, walk back to car. Day 2 Driv...

Re: Scottish National Trail - Is there a better walk in the

Definitely on my todo list. Started on St Cuthbert's Way in 2015 and kept completing in sections. Got as far as Morvich in 2020 but hoping to complete the remaining interesting part in next few years.

Check boxes not showing on Scottish National Trail Page

Just happened to notice this error. I can see the checkboxes showing as the page loads up but then they disappear behind the map. So it is impossible to check off completed sections. Tried it in two browsers namely Chrome and Edge. Can you please fix it?

Many thanks

David

Re: Cape Wrath Trail: Stage one at 71!

Great report. I am in the process of doing the Scottish National Trail and have got as far as Morvich. I was originally hoping to get to Cape Wrath by age of 60, but at 59 it will probably a few more trips. I also wait for good weather forecasts - Scotland is a long way to travel only to walk in the...

Cluanie to Morvich

The final day of this stretch of the Scottish National Trail from Fort Augustus to Morvich. I was dropped off at Cluanie - midges were biting as soon as I was out of car, so had to get moving. The first mile from where I left out is along the road but the scenery accross the loch was good. Plenty of...

Day 2 of my trek from Fort Augustus to Morvich. After being dropped off at my finish point the previous day (Greenfield), I was on my way in fair weather. $matches[2] $matches[2] Before reaching Greenfield (walked the previous day) there is a forest track sharp right after a farm building - there ar...

Fort Augustus to Greenfield (Part 2)

Fort Augustus to Greenfield (Part 1)

After a 2 year absence, it was time to do some more Scottish National Trail and the plan for this stage was to cover from Fort Augustus to Morvich over 3 days. Decided to holiday at Invergarry for week with family, so was able to travel light and get dropped off and picked up on each day. The first ...

Garva Bridge to Fort Augustus

A peaceful still night at Garva Bridge with the only sound being the nearby running stream. Think this was my favourite wild camps since leaving Blair Atholl. Looking forward to another long day of walking in glorious weather. aP_20180528_09_03_04_Pro.jpg After Garva bridge, there is an increased fe...

Newtonmore to Garva Bridge

Another sunny and hot day ahead, so set off about 9am from Newtonmore continuing from where I left off yesterday with a steady climb up the minor road along the River Calder. Road meets river where it meanders. A pleasant spot this with viewing seats and parking. There were a few people out enjoying...

Glen Feshie to Newtonmore

After a good night's camp, I was up early next morning setting off shortly after 7am in the cool of the day. The wind had eased overnight and it was a fairly dull, but warm dry morning. $matches[2] Not much scenery for the first few kilometres as the path goes mainly along a wooded road with the odd...

Re: Scottish National Trail - Cluanie to Morvich

Enjoyed your story so far. I'm about a year behind you (did Pitlochry to Fort Augustus in May and hoped to get to Morvich this month, but weather forecast wasn't good). Looks like you had rough weather from Cluanie. I'm a bit of a fair weather walker so will wait for a good weather window next year ...
