Re: Durable Lightweight Tent

I've got a Berghaus Peak 3.3 for two of us plus dog.Ripstop nylon and alloy poles. Plenty of space with a large porch where two rucksacks can be stowed in the end and still have room to sit in the middle. Just over 3kg but we split the tent in half to carry it. Available from Blacks just now for £118.

Re: budget tent

I haven't used a Chinook but I've had other Gelert 1 and 2 man tents and they've been perfectly good for the money. If you can stretch the budget a bit I'd recommend a Berghaus Peak 3.3.

Came over Ben Nevis just before 1 on Saturday. Looked great swooping down into the Glen.

That must be the same one we saw flying past Braeriach heading west about 12:30.

Re: Camping on a Munro

I haven't used it myself but I know up Glen Doll in the Angus Glens the Forestry Commission have a designated area for wild camping.Mayar would be a relatively easy munro from there so long as the weather is decent.

Re: Food hints

I take home made sandwiches to work every day of the week so at the weekend I splash out and buy shop bought ones or wraps.I usually just get a meal deal, the bag of crisps and a bar of chocolate is enough to keep me going for a day.A 500mm flask of coffee with the milk heated up in the microwave fir...

Re: Bennachie - 11 Peaks Route

I should have added for a longer walk you could first take in Watch Craig from Back o' Bennachie. Good views from there and you rarely meet anyone else.

Re: Bennachie - 11 Peaks Route

If you drive up to Rowantree car park you'll pass a couple of signs for the hotel.Another option would be to park at the Back o' Bennachie,Oyne and climb up to Oxen Craig and on to Mither Tap.From Mither Tap head back down the Maiden Causeway towards the Rowantree car park but take the path on the r...

Re: Wintery Bennachie

I was up there last week and it was treacherous in the ice. I'm not a fan of crowds either so a route I like to do is up to Oxen Craig and then over to Watch Craig and down to Back o' Bennachie. Rarely meet anyone there.

Re: First ever tent

Although I'm really a fair weather camper(f the forecast is rubbish I'll stay at home) I've been out in tents costing £30-£40 in torrential rain and wind and they haven't let in a drop.I have a limited budget and never used a tent with more than 3000HH.According to Snugpak anything over 2000HH will ...

Re: Long walk for a beginner

I've never been on the Great Glen Way but I used to work on the Speyside Way many moons ago. There's campsites at Buckie,Fochabers,Aberlour,Grantown,Aviemore. You might have to wild camp between Aberlour and Grantown, about 20 miles apart, but I would think that section is fairly quiet and shouldn't be ...
