Re: Fan Fawr +2

You asked "anyone know what this is? Saw it on Fan Frynych" - looks like a shooting butt.

Re: Un-chained Melody- Aonach Beag Ridge Walk/ Cycle/ Stagge

Great trip and great report.

Is Culra locked up? Are there any notices about repair?

Re: Beinn Bhrotain, Monadh Mor & Loch nan Stuirteag

Thanks to the 3 of you for the comments.

I do about 7 or 8 Munros a year now - half the number I did when I lived near Manchester.

The loch is a great spot to camp and so many hills can be easily reached.

I'm no rock climber and can't help with any routes - sorry.

Re: Red Grouse - "Broken Wing"

I used to live in the Peak District. I could see the heather moors from my kitchen window. I saw red grouse every day but never saw the broken wing display.

Beinn Bhrotain, Monadh Mor & Loch nan Stuirteag

Beinn Bhrotain and Monadh Mor. These mountain names had haunted me for a few years. Living in the south of England it isn't easy to think about picking off hills like these when the conditions suit and to be honest they hadn't excited me sufficiently to plan a week long trip around them as the main ...

Ptarmigan "Broken Wing"

Two days after seeing red grouse perform a broken wing distraction en route to Beinn a' Bhuird I saw ptarmigan using the same strategy on Beinn Bhrotain. Re: Red Grouse - "Broken Wing"

I've seen dotterel do broken wing distraction quite a lot - they tend to make a fuss from a short distance and try to get you moving towards them. The grouse were different in that the hen came up very close, aggressively even. Her job was to get me moving. Meanwhile the cock made a fuss in the dire...

Red Grouse - "Broken Wing"

Seen en route to Beinn a' Bhuird - hen and cock showing incredible bravery as the chicks dispersed. Beinn a' Bhuird & Ben Avon from Keiloch

This route is much the same as that taken by Leithy Suburbs so please see his map. I probably did a bit more wandering about on the Beinn a' Bhuird plateau. My Flickr album provides more description for each shot and route tips so click through to there. Leaving the car park at 7.15 a.m. (£2.50 char...

Re: Cameras

The good things about the D5200 are: Sensor - sharp high resolution images Size and weight Great range of lenses available Articulated screen Easy to use the basic functions Compromise issues relate to how far you want to take your photography: Beginners camera in terms of controls or rather the lac...

Re: Size 12 FOR SALE

Glad you got some to fit. Chances are mine wouldn't have fitted if the Scarpas suit you. Thanks for the interest.

Re: Size 12 FOR SALE

Hi balgonie, How did you get on? I find shoe/boot sizing to be a personal thing and wouldn't want to persuade you otherwise. Meindl are the easiest to track down and I have had several pairs over the years and they all seem to fit the same (unlike Raicle/Mammut which differ enormously from style to ...

Size 12 FOR SALE

I have 3 pairs of size 12 boots for sale. I would say all are on the wide side. If the standard Scarpa fit is too narrow for you these will probably fit the bill. If you are interested get in touch and I will send details with photos. 1. AKU Zenith - Brand New in box. This is an all leather 3 season...

Re: Painfull soles wearing Scarpa Mantas

Sorry I am late with this reply and I realise you have some good advice already. My experience some years ago was identical to yours: I had a pair of Mantas and a pair of Scarpa Alps, both of which I used for winter and both left me with painful feet. I had Raichles for summer which fitted perfectly...
