Carn nan Gobhar - in Praise of Wallflowers

No-one has much to say about Carn nan Gobhar. Overshadowed by more charismatic neighbours, it is either perfunctorily visited en route to higher things with a brief mention of its rough flanks or staggered over, more dead than alive at the end of an epic trek around the Mullardoch badlands. Looking ...

Re: Hoad Hill, Ulverston

If you go on a Sunday, you can go up to the top of the monument and get a much better view. It was restored a few years ago.

There is an easy path up from Ford Park which goes diagonally across the craggy slope which the monument stands.

Re: 6 Outlying Fells and a Marilyn

The Ulverston-Coniston bus goes past the starting point if you want to make a linear walk of it and haven’t got two cars. Park up in Ulverston, get the bus up to Torver Beck and walk back. The Cumbrian Way will take you into town - or finish at the Barrow Monument (which you can go up on Sundays)

She's not making a very good job of putting that tent up.

Re: When is enough... enough?

Does a hill have to be in a list to be worth climbing? If you drop the height and reascent thresholds, not only do the totals go through the roof but the ratio of worthwhile to not worthwhile shrinks to minute proportions. Forget lists, by all means look at what's on your doorstep without the aid of...

Re: Marsden to Greenfield over Black Hill

Black Hill is the only top I know with a patio on it. The tour riders will also miss the excellent pub in Holme village.

Prepare to be amazed, I was up it at New Year!

And you didn't do a trip report ! It's the only hill I know with a pub at either end.

Wonder if the manager of the Aonach Mor café will respond to this one?

Re: Cycle EHW advise

I've not walked all of it. Most of the bits I've done are mountain/tough hybrid bikeable - a lot of it follows forest roads which go quite easily. You might have problems east of the Monessie Gorge where the route finding is a bit tricky - It might be less trouble to head for Tulloch along the A86 f...
