Beinn Sgulaird on my bended knee

There's something about climbing a Munro on a day that should be a working day so when I checked the MWIS website on Sunday evening and the forecast for the West Highlands on Monday was perfect for a day in the hills it was the hills that won and on Monday morning early I was heading north towards O...

Re: A second attempt at Bidean nam Bian and a bottle of Magn

Very nice Clivew. I will certainly be doing those hills again. That last fottie looking to the lost valley - the ridge on its right hand side Is a great alternative route out to the valley floor. Its steep on the descent but was worth the effort for walking that ridge. Unfortunately I cant recall t...

The best thing about this walk is that's it's so easy to get to the starting point, but it was an enjoyable walk, one I wouldn't mind doing again sometime

A second attempt at Bidean nam Bian and a bottle of Magners

This was my first Munro for a while as for the last few months all my spare time was taken up either training with my "non-walking" work mates for the Caledonian Challenge or trying to keep her indoors happy by re-decorating the whole house (at least it felt like the whole house), thankful...

The Caledonian Challenge in 21 hrs

This report is intended for my walk diary and although not a true long distance walk 54 miles in less than 24 hours is not a short walk either. The team trained very hard for months before the walk as some of the guys had never climbed a Munro in their lives so we were out in all sorts of wind and w...

Ben Chonzie from the Famous Grouse

This walk is one of a series of walks with the team of guys I'm doing the Caledonian Challenge with in June. The team is myself, Colin, Martin, Sandy, Hamish and Billy (Billy was missing from this walk). The guys wanted something a bit longer than our last walk over the Pentlands Ridge so I decided ...

Pentlands Ridge from Glencorse to West Kip

This was a walk with the guys that I'm doing the Caledonian Challenge with, they all opted for a slightly longer walk this week as part of our training regime so the Pentlands Ridge was the obvious choice. The start point was the car park near the visitor centre at Harlaw supposedly at 08.00 but Ham...

Pentlands Circuit

Another trip up into the Pentlands; this is about as far as I wanted to travel this weekend as there is still plenty of snow around and I knew the roads North would be busy. The good thing about the Pentlands is there are so many different routes to choose from, routes of varying lengths and heights...

Pentlands low level circuit

Another training walk with the lads from the Charity Walking Team; we are all walking the Caledonian Challenge in June so everyone need to get a few miles under their belt. Intended to do the Pentlands Ridge Walk but the wind was atrocious with blowing snow so did the low level circuit instead. It w...

Tinto Hill from the North

Did this walk with a lad from work who needed to get some hill walking experience for a charity walk in June, decided on Tinto hill because of its location and size. Unfortunately it was snowing when we set off and the weather turned really bad when we reached the summit. A good walk though, ideal i...

Geal Charn from Garva Bridge

Having spent the previous 2 days on a course at Glenmore Lodge near Aviemore this walk was chosen as a fairly short walk for my brother Colin and I on our way back to Edinburgh. The weather over the weekend had been perfect, clear blue skies and freezing temperatures with a good covering of snow on ...

2 days at Glenmore Lodge in the Cairngorms

This report is an amalgam of photos and information from a recent visit to the National Outdoor Centre at Glenmore Lodge near Aviemore. Myself and my brother took part in a 2 day "introduction to winter skills" course over the weekend of the 16th and 17th of February. If ever you get the c...

Re: Glenmore lodge winter skills weekend day 1

I was on the same course as you but in a different group; my brother (who was with me) and myself had a great time, the weather was amazing. I was really impressed with Glenmore Lodge, the staff, accommodation and the grub were all excellent.
