Re: Ullapool 5 dayer in the wet - and turning 40!!

Kuwait to Assynt  Yeh - it's a long way - :( Hopefully won't be that way forever. Somerset is 'home', which is still a long way off. I take it your half bonkers also, being a gemini? Well - after driving from Assynt to Somerset in 12 hours yesterday I think I'd have to agree. Bonkers in a ni...

Re: Ullapool 5 dayer in the wet - and turning 40!!

Great photos. It looks like you had a brilliant birthay 'outing'. Have just returned from a week in Assynt and, as always, it was magical. Just wish I could get there more often. Never been to Gruinard Bay - your photos make it look amazing. That's on my list for next time. Belated happy 40th :D I w...

Re: Another Suilven re-climb, life is indeed tough !

Well done Ashleigh! I was up there just two days before you; it was calm and sunny but even so I found the route from the bealach to the top very scarey. I certainly wouldn't have had the courage to do it in the windy conditions you encountered. Very impressed. First time for me - what a special mou...

Re: Tse' bighanilini

Gorgeous photographs. Desert environments do produce some stunning slot canyons. I've seen similar in the Middle East and Africa - but never such a beautiful deep red colour.

Re: What would it be?

Achmelvich beach and the rocky area around. I thought it was beautiful.

However, I've not been to Skye or Torridon or Knoydart so perhaps I'm making my decision based on limited evidence! Got a lot to look forward to, eh?

Re: Half Dome - Yosemite National Park

Really beautiful pictures. :D I especially like the ones showing all the people in a line hauling themselves up to the top on the cable. Not only would I probably be too scared to do that last part, but also too embarrassed because I'd for sure hold people up behind me. :(

Re: Ben Nevis via the CMD Arete from the North Face Carpark

I'm planning on doing Ben Nevis via the CMD arete next June (Ha! Such a long way off and I'm planning already!!) and this report is great. The route is well explained and described and I reckon it'll be pretty easy to follow. Really enjoyed reading it too. Are you, by any chance, a geologist or geom...

Re: Ben Venue

Fantastic! You look like you're all having such a great day. And well done Jamie (and you for using that wise tactic to get him up there!) I bet he loved it at the top, and hope he wants to do another now!

Re: Farm Animals

Many years ago whilst walking on the Somerset Levels I came across a sheep which was semi-submerged in one of the murky, sludgy ditches which criss-cross the low-lying land there. Its fleece was 'water-logged'; it couldn't heave itself out and was obviously in some distress. I legged it back to my c...

Re: Stunning Stoer

Scotland's most remote bacon butty van was there then run by a lady from Devon Interesting......if it's the same lady she told me she was from Gloucester!!! Story was that she had fallen for the charms of a gentleman from Drumbeg. Bet it is her. I don't mind where's she's from - it's the sausage sa...

Stunning Stoer

I had planned to climb Stac Pollaidh this day, but no sooner had I parked up and got out of the car than the rain began and the midges attacked. I’m a wimp. I beat a hasty retreat, which was accompanied by a rapid change of mind and I decided to head on up the narrow road towards Lochinver. After a ...

Re: Steel grey skies at Sandwood Bay

Michelle: Thanks for the info. I didn't think it was possible for it to be pollution, but these days you never know -sadly.

HighlandSC: Lovely photo - are those your footprints in the sand? It's a beautiful, sunny day today :D but alas I am on my way south :( Ah well, next time.

Re: Mount Sinai (Moses Mountain)

Love the photos. There's something very appealing about those bleak, rocky landscapes (moonscapes!). A place I would very much like to go. Jordan mountains are very similar landscapes and there are no security problems whatsoever if you go there. The tourist is 'God' and noone will bother you - eve...
