Phone reception in the glen is non-existent . The rest of us set off. We reached the summit , it was then I receiv...

Re: Family- & public transport-friendly walks - Skye & Highl

The Quiraing on Skye is spectacular and well worth a visit . There is a good bus service from Portree to the start of some of the paths .
I would also recommend Plockton which has a rail station - There is a nice beach there

Re: What order should i do these 4?

Don't do as I did and end up with the railway to cross between 3.40 and 4pm.
There is a train due in each direction then :( . I ended up standing at Balsporran waiting for them both to pass by . This is one route where a knowledge of rail times helps .

Re: Unique Starting Points

Rubers Law from Hawick. Minch Moor from Galashiels. Mid Eildon from Clovenfords. Norman's Law from Newburgh. White Meldon from Peebles. Tulloch Hill from Tarbet. Meall Tairbh from Bridge of Orchy. and I thought I could compete with RTC :( Clearly not, as whilst I did all but Norman's Law by public ...

Re: Unique Starting Points

As a non-driver , I have a few unconventional routes that I like . Stuc a Chroin from Braeleny (handy for the bus from Stirling to Callander); and Meall Garbh and Carn Mairg from the north for example. I also like linear walks - like in the Pentlands or along the coast .

Re: most remote habitable building on uk mainland

Yes I reckon Meoble wins for remoteness.
I did Meith Bhein, in my younger days when I bagged hills and its kind of scary in that area

Re: most remote habitable building on uk mainland

Pairc would surely have the remotest buildings in the UK . As for mainland UK , maybe that remote building on south side of Loch Morar

Re: Walker Wins 40,000 Euros Damages from Nat Park - Madness

Would seven stitches in your knee stop you going hillwalking ever again ?
We don't know the situation , but whilst I had a scar from a gashed knee (running accident) needing seven stitches and the scar took 15 years to fade , I was on the hills a few weeks later.

Re: Snow on Ben Chonzie at the moment

I was apprehensive at the start of the day - especially as there were 13 in the group.
However , It was a successful day- the only minor glitch was that the Royal Hotel bar was too crowded and we had to sit in the posh area of the hotel itself to drink our tea and coffee.

Re: Snow on Ben Chonzie at the moment

I asked because I was leading a group from the Clackmannanshire Hillwalking group yesterday. Thanks for your info. We had a great day on Ben Chonzie yesterday . Just one patch of snow .
Wind speed a little blustery though
