Re: Half Ring of Steall...on a beautiful winter's day

Thanks litljortindan. I know it's not all about speed, but I'm a competitive long distance runner and that competition carries over into the hills too! It was a cracking day :D

Half Ring of Steall...on a beautiful winter's day

our_route.gpx A loud noise rings out. It's 5.55am. Most of the hotel is still sleeping, but for me it's time to move. Time to sort out my rucksack for the hike ahead, as I was too tired to sort it the previous evening. This is my sort of holiday. Breakfast is served from 7am. I'm there, the first, ...

Re: The ultimate ridge route to Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis

I think this is indeed a fantastic route to the summit of Ben Nevis as you get to do two ridges: the east ridge of Carn Mor Dearg then the CMD arete. Doing it from the North Face Car Park is also good, but you then only get to do the CMD arete. To be honest, the CMD arete is so good that I would als...

The Nevis Range Challenge

our_route.gpx Having climbed Carn Mor Dearg every summer since 2004, and included the CMD arête to Ben Nevis every summer since 2008, it was time to try something new and more adventurous. I had had my eye on completing all of the Munros in the Nevis Range for some time now, but the typical fickle ...

Re: Aonach Beag, Aonach Mor, CMD & Ben Nevis circuit

Cracker of a walk this. I did it about a month ago, wasn't as hard as I thought.

You sure had a nice day for it :D

Re: The ultimate ridge route to Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis

Hi Hoolie- thanks for your comment! :D I'm hoping to write a book some day, so log each walk I do in some detail in preparation for that, and publish it on here if anyone's interested! I have recently come back from Scotland and this year did all 4 Munros in the Nevis Range (the Aonachs, CMD a...

Re: Ring of Steall - 4 eggs in one basket

Great report, great pictures, awesome day! :D :D

That photo comparison is intriguing, it really hasn't changed that much at all despite all the wind and rain that must smack into that ridge during bad weather!! :D

Re: The Ring of Steall + 2

Thanks folks! The narrow ridge between An Gearanach and An Garbhanach was quite exposed as well Yes I actually thought the An Garbhanach ridge was more exposed than the Devil's Ridge- the Devil's Ridge really isn't too bad once you're on it. I've seen your report BlackPanther, you had a magnificent ...

The Ring of Steall + 2

I had wanted to do the Ring of Steall for 2 summers now, however a constant run of strong winds during my past 2 visits had ruled out the possibility of such a high-level narrow ridge walk. However during my trip in early July 2011, we were blessed with a spell of fine weather, light winds, and the ...

Re: Ton up on Carn Mor Dearg

Cracking report and on such an excellent day! I'm hoping to be up there in a couple of weeks, hope to get weather like you but doubt it!! :( Very useful to see the amount of winter snow left in the summits/corries though, gives me an idea of what is feasible in 2 weeks- thanks! :D :D

Re: Bonus day in Perthshire

Quite often the clouds make mountain photos look more dramatic as they add greater perspective! Provided they aren't so thick that you can't see anything of course!

Nice pics :)

Re: A Torridon summit camp

Amazing photos and looks like a fantastic spot for a wile camp! :D I have done plenty of wild camping but never that far north...this has really spurred me on to do that someday, though maybe next year as the winter will soon be upon us...

Thanks for this :D
