They don't come much easier than this! Cairnpapple Hill

They really don't come much easier than Cairnpapple Hill do they? Visited the nearby cairn and henge first, which gave ample opportunity to check that the hill was clear of cows, before driving round to the small car park at Knock Hill and walking back up towards the gate. Initially I planned to tak...

Meikle Bin after canicross racing!

Oops, it's been a while since I've done a report! Various reasons, too hot in summer and then everything was washed away in the autumn so couldn't get anywhere! One thing we have still being doing though is canicrossing, and I don't do walk reports for that because I don't get pretty pictures to inc...

Re: Resoling Alt-Bergs

Check the treads when they start getting worn down time to resole :) I didn't pay enough attention to mine (never had boots/shoes that lasted long enough to need to worry about things like that  ) and found that their grip wasn't as good, checking underneath I found out why! It was 4 years I th...

Re: Eriskay - can you get there by public transport with a d

I've been on the bus in North Uist with a dog that wasn't even mine. But I think it depends a lot on the operator. Apparently because it's a minibus I won't be able to take two dogs, they also didn't specify just one would be okay and I wouldn't want to chance it because what if there was already a...

Re: You support masts in wild land (allegedly)

Stupid waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere. Have the government even done a survey to find out what hillwalkers want or are they doing the usual of deciding for themselves what a particular group of people want? If the concern is for hillwalkers they could just set up a PLB hire sche...

Eriskay - can you get there by public transport with a dog

Could be taking a big risk with trying this but looking at a trip to Eriskay. I'm just really wanting to spend a couple days on the island watching the ponies but it is very expensive to take the car to have it sitting doing nothing! So what are the chances of being able to get public transport from...

Re: Boot/ shoe fitting

I used Craigdon Mountain Sports (the Perth one, but there is one in Aberdeen) when getting my boots. But that was 8 years ago - I still have the boots though  The guy took his time to help me find the right fitting boots, actually had to order in the pair I needed as they didn't have the exact ...

Re: Dog bungee lead

Most walking belts have the lead separate from the belt, it is a lot safer and more convenient to be able to unclip the dog from the belt by the lead rather than having to let the dog of the lead for getting them under fences or general safety reasons. Attaching a lead to a lead is creating addition...

Re: Left behind and thrown away rubbish.

Both the UK and Scottish governments seem really slow in wanting to tackle the national litter issue in the UK. :( I'm sure the deposit scheme would have helped too if it went ahead! Education is key and I assume schools are doing more about it, but it doesn't take long for bad parenting to undo th...
