Re: Proof of the Earth's curvature on Ben Klibreck!(?)

Take heart though, there are plenty of other ways to prove flat-earthers wrong. Eg, no one in the history of the world, ever, has reported seeing the "edge" of it, Er but..... I've flown all the way to western Canada several times and the plane was flying flat at 37,000 feet all the way f...

Re: Proof of the Earth's curvature on Ben Klibreck!(?)

Unlike flat esrthers. I do listen to good peer reviewed science. I might have to admit defeat on this one, but I note it says "almost always' distorted, and that the horizon has to be dead centre (therefore there's room to say its theoretically posdible). I'm still puzzled why the horizon in m...

Re: Blencathra via Doddick Fell

Nice photos. I've only been up the Doddick Fell ridge once, but I remember it being a very enjoyable route; I'd say one of the top three ridges on Blencathra. Must go up that way again some time! :)

Haystacks and Kirk Fell from Honister Hause

With KW. Parked at slate quarry car park, Honister Hause, got suited & booted then went into cafe for a coffee and vegan sausage roll (very nice), before setting off (10.15am) up the Drum Hause to Haystacks. Breezy and chilly but not too bad & with some brighter spells. Put on waterproofs at...

Re: Glacier, Yellowstone and the Tetons

That looked a wonderful trip through some absolutely stunning landscapes, Tony. I'd love to visit that part of the world, especially the Grand Tetons.

With KW. Parked at Threlkeld upper car park. Up beck-side track & over footbridge to other side of intake wall, rightwards beside this to Halls Fell. Up this to summit. Snow just a smattering at first but getting deeper higher up. Soft powder. Tricky on the rocky parts. Karl's left crampon came ...

Re: Beinne Bhuidhe conditions

Don't know which route you intend to take, but if you go by the standard Glen Fyne route it's worth bearing in mind that the path beside the burn above Inverchorachan involves a short, exposed rock step that, IME, would be pretty difficult and risky in icy conditions. It's the sort of thing that cou...

Re: Three classic Snowdonia scrambles in one day

Sounds like you're as bad as me when it comes to cafe stops on walks! Except last time I did the Snowdon Horseshoe the summit cafe was closed due to snow and high winds (in April!) - very disappointing  . Great to have scrambled Crib Goch, Bristly Ridge and Tryfan North Ridge in the same day, a...

Coledale Horseshoe (minus Hopegill Head).

With KW. Parked at the Orthodox chapel in Braithwaite. A very windy day, extremely violent gusts going up NE ridge of GP, abating slightly on summit and further on descent towards Hobcarton Crag. Went over this top but decided to by-pass Hopegill Head and make straight for Coledale Hause, in view of...

Re: Training walk: South Downs

Makes a nice change to see some photos of the South Downs; probably some of the most substantial hills in SE England?
